When we lived in the Bay Area and I worked in Oakland, CA, the city was 47% Black. When we were there recently driving near the Airport in an area that used to be Black residents (Brookfield Village, Sobrante Park)
we noticed that all the people we saw were Hispanic. I just looked it up, and now it's only 23.75% Black, and 27% Hispanic, so they too have lost a lot of them and were replaced by Hispanics.
I don't remember the timeframes but there was a time that, while a passenger in a car on HWY 24, you could look over at the beach and the lake and all of the people at Lake Temescal were black. Then, in a later timeframe, one could do the same (look over) and see the same/a similar number number of people, but see zero black people rather than all black people.
Many moving from the city to the nearby suburbs. People have been moving from the cities into the suburbs for decades. Sometimes it's a 20 mile move. As the suburbs expand outward, people move farther out.
i looked at the list of cities and i wonder if the decrease might be in part due to:
A) retirees moving to warmer and/or cheaper places to live.
B) young adults moving to find jobs.
Of course, because they are hellholes would still be option c)
These cities have seen their populations increase, but the Black population is not increasing. And that same metric is also used to describe other cities that people talk about Blacks leaving. Percentage is a factor to consider. While other races are moving to those cities, Blacks aren't moving there. WHY?
That's a different situation from what you were originally claiming... that Blacks were LEAVING the cities. I'm glad that you've now recognized that a reduction in PERCENTAGE of population does not necessarily mean that Blacks are leaving. Their numbers just aren't INCREASING as fast as other segments of the population.
As for why Blacks aren't moving there, I can only conclude it's because they realize that wherever they happen to live at the present time is likely better than moving to some inner city ghetto. While it's true that Blacks tend to prefer inner city living to suburban or rural living, it's important to realize that not all inner cities are the same. Some are better (or worse, depending on your perspective) than others.
Cities are highly desirable places to live and work and that is driving up the cost of housing. The people that are leaving are doing so because they can no longer afford to live there.
The all inclusive woke liberal utopian cities are doing a great job at pushing black people out. They're doing it in favor of yuppie, suburban college graduates that are mostly white.
Classic example is Chicago today. The black Southside is emptying out, while the Northside is prospering with new residential units, infill and shiny new towers and largely empty of black residents.
It's the cities and the associated policies and 'culture' that motivate people to leave. Just as it's these city policies and/or current culture that fester crime and criminals. They need to take a look at themselves and re assess what they are doing.
This might make for interesting gentrification possibilities.
