Here's the competition. Wilson and Vallas are a couple of re-treads, they've tried and failed several times. Lopez seems seems like the best candidate to seriously challenge Lightfoot, but the incumbent always has a huge advantage.
Raymond Lopez - alderman
Willie Wilson - businessman running for the 3rd time
Kam Bucker - IL state rep
Frederick Collins - Chicago police officer
Paul Vallas - Former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas
Willie Wilson has the most name recognition right now because he's gave away a million dollars in gas before officially announcing his run. Will people remember that in 2023? Who knows. He also seems to want to improve relations between police and the community, which is productive. He said he is not gonna promise to fix Chicago's crime problems all by himself, so it sounds like he wants to take a realistic approach to the matter. I still have questions about how he would accomplish his stated goals, but at this point I am viewing him as a viable choice.
A place where the least qualified, most incompetent and dishonest, patently evil, mentally ill, walking disaster can aspire to destroy an entire city (and in another case, the entire nation!!!). And can be reelected after doing so. At one time, such a villain would be sent to the tower of London.
That generally only gets played up in elections against R's because it's then turned into "they don't like me because I'm a black or lesbian" or to quote Lightfoot "99% of criticism about me is because I'm black or Lesbian".
That doesn't really fly that well in a Democratic Mayoral race.
The mayoral race is non-partisan. Those commenting here should know that at least.

Being CEO of CPS isn’t exactly a gold star on one’s resume.
It didn't hurt him. I think he went on to being CEO in New Orleans, Bridgeport and Philly.
