This is what Biden said he was going to do when he ran for president.... reduce dependence on oil by causing supply shortages by restricting pipelines and drilling.
Combined with the world's over-reaction to covid and it's affects on the supply chain, it make take some time for capacities to rise.
Voting matters. If you believe in a micro-managed nanny state where you will own nothing and be happy, vote democrat. If you believe in the concept of hard work leading to success and independence, where actions have consequences, vote republican. Neither party is perfect but one is far more toxic in their thinking. The democrats trying to play Robin Hood will destroy society.
Of course people around me make good money and I see them waste their money while taking out 401K loans... I don't expect high gas prices will affect behavior significantly.. people are still buying motor homes out here. If people are willing to pay, let them. Just don't bail them all out when they are all eyeballs in debt... make their actions have consequences.
Sounds like Depression level. I would not be able to afford to drive at that price. Afraid it would be game over for me and many others.
Lots of people will curtail their driving or curtail some spending in order to pay for gas. The real problem is businesses that buy a lot of fuel like trucking companies or even uber drivers.
Democrat voters should hopefully realize that Democrat policies hurt the working class the hardest, the very people they claim to be helping. (hint, it's all a lie )

It's more than curtail. I would not be able to function at 10/gallon along with other inflation like food. Maybe there are a lot of well off people out there who just need to cut back at 10/gallon but many will not be able to actually function. I work with people on fixed incomes who live in burbs and rural, totally dependent on cars. Do they just starve, die because they can't get to appointments?
