It doesn’t bother me that China knows I watch funny dog videos on Tik Tok.
What bothers me is that time when they hacked into the US government’s Office of Personal Management and got access to all my security clearance information, background information, and finger prints.
I'm so glad that I don't have a tiktoc account, social media has ruined the US and the world. It's a terrible world that we live in today, we are constantly being tracked by big brother and the big tech giants like Meta.
Chinese app, it was obvious to me from day one that it shouldn't be trusted. I do watch tic toc videos linked from others on youtube from time to time. I assume that's ok, I hope.

It’s not just your watch data they mine. It’s everything you do on your device.

Yup! People don't realize that any app can effectively open a door for all phone related activity to be monitored, tracked and data mined. Same thing can happen with tablets, laptops and computers too.
There are no social media apps installed on my phone.
Just another reason to not participate in social media. Why provide your biometrics, thoughts, meals, location, family/friends connections for free to a private corporation that will profit off it by selling all of your data and information to whoever wants to buy it?
Actually, if people post incorrect/fake data about themselves, that would be better in the long run.
Let them have a bunch of fake information! They will be very surprised if they ever try to use it against people and it doesnt work so well.
My guess is that China is trying to identify users who are culturally Chinese to try to influence them with propaganda, or blackmail them with threats against relatives in China. There have been a number of stories here in Canada of China doing both.
