That is not necessarily what it will be. There will be a working group set up to develop an open category. It is very possible there may not be enough trans athletes to make up their own. In that case Men's could be changed to Open.

Women's category would be restricted to biological females and trans men (FTM) not on HRT.
Open Category would be Men, trans females, or trans men on HRT. Of course it would be by selection based on talent, so predominantly men.

Should also be noted the FINA policy covers "Elite Level" only. Collegiate swimming for example is not considered élite. NCAA will most likely follow the new guidelines set forth by USA Swimming. That policy much stricter then previous NCAA policy and would of eliminated Lia Thomas for example.

Different sports governing groups both international and domestic will be setting forth policy and will certainly get confusing.

They opined that if they did not do this (ban transgenders) they would never see a biological woman on a podium again. That's quite a statement.

It's so refreshing when common sense and adherence to scientific reality actually takes place.

I would have preferred to simply say that everyone must compete as the gender that they were during puberty. But I can live with the "open category" idea.

And this is how we are goingt o work through this. They may have to set up an 'other' category where trans, and whoever wants can compete.

I don't know. Not an athlete...and not overly concerned if a sporting organization allows or doesn't allow, I think it is up to them. Lots won't agree with me. That's okay.

A step in the right direction. Hopefully all other sports follow suit.

This is great news!

If Lia Thomas had even a shred of decency, they would never have competed against biological women. Lia had to know that, despite having transitioned that they had a male body and nothing would ever change that fact. The whole fiasco just about turned my stomach.

Now...will Lia's swimming wins become null and void? That would be the fair thing to do for all those bio women who got cheated due to Lia.

This shouldn’t have even needed to be a decision. Keep women’s sports for women. Everyone else regardless of how they identify plays on the mens’ team.

Wow holly poop. Can't believe that people [Parents] would say ok "HE " [ pick a name ] can't compete with other boys/Males. So let him compete against girls that are half his size. . Wow great boy to be proud of.
The entire debate answer is easy

Default "World swimming bans transgender athletes from women's events"

World swimming bans transgender athletes from women's events

It should be a 100% ban but this is a step in the right direction.

Too late for some. My granddaughter made the national gymnastic tournament at age 11, competing against 13-18 year old girls. When the powers-that-be let boys in, she quit. She says she won't go back.
