Seriously, does gay marriage even impact any non-gay folks' lives????? Whether John and Dan next door are legally married or not does not impact my life one bit. So, why all the fuss? If gay folks want to get married, then let them. And give them all the benefits that comes with it. They might find married life not all that great but that's another issue.
Well Japan is not progressive like the US. They are more traditional. Just accept that.
Why ? I accept it. Not our country. We have no say in their law; just opinions.
And opinions is all anyone is giving here. I dont think anyone here believes that their city data posts are going to change the behaviors of any government.
Being that marriage is what we have the civil union argument is a bit of a moot point. I thought that's how it should be and it may have moved the decision up a few years because it wouldn't offend religious blow hards. I think separation of church and state is why you would use the term instead of marriage.
However it's fine the way it is. I am in favor of any term you call it as long as it levels the playing field.
I think where we differ is in the term marriage.
Some religious people want you to believe that marriage is only a religious ceremony. It isn't.
You can get a marriage license, or be legally married without any religion at all.
So using the term marriage doesn't affect the separation of church and state, since the term, or act is not owned by any religion, any more than Bingo is a religious term or game, simply because some bingo games happen in church halls.
" the state of being united as spouses in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law"

But marriage is still a 'sacrament' of the church.
Even if you get married by a justice of the peace, (with no recognized religion), the judge executive will still use the word 'God' in the phrases he recites to marry the 2 people. I should know, I was married thru a county judge executive.
Make no mistake, gay marriage in Japan is just a matter of time, it will happen.... it just happened in Thailand a few days ago, which is much more traditional than Japan Japan has its own social rhythm, many things only happened there because the US forced a lot...
Japan and the Japanese are much more flexible about sexuality, the western male stereotype doesn't happen there... boys interact together in everything and many attitudes would be seen as gay here, it's super normal for Japanese men.

Your experience doesn't mean all experiences.
I randomly choose a site in the US and got Virginia. A Justice of the Peace has options.
This site lists different wordings, with a separate list of wordings for "Religious Formal and Semi-Formal Ceremony Wordings".
So anyone can choose not to have " god " mentioned, and have a marriage by a Justice of the Peace without god or religion.
Yes the difference between bingo and marriage in a church is obvious, but my point still stands. Just because marriage takes place in a church, and is a sacrament, doesn't' mean the church OWNS the word.
