No one is taking away their freedom. Japan allows same sex partnerships.
Not every country is "woke like me".
I know a gay couple in their 70's. They were gay long before any laws were put in place. And they are not married nor care to get married.
Lifestyles existed long before activists decided what is right and what is wrong.
And those opposed to SSM can demonstrate their opposition by not marrying someone of the same sex.
I'm sure it will give them strokes and heart attacks. But remember... their nation, their rules. Right lefties?
Isn't it interesting that the "counterculture" here in the US of fifty years ago told us all that marriage is an archaic religious ritual that needs to go the way of the dinosaur. My how things change.
Many gay people do not actually want to get married in the old fashioned sense. I am one of them but married so my husband who is British could come live here in the USA with me. Marriage is an old religious dinosaur that shouldn't have recognition of any kind. What it should be is gay or straight you get a civil union that has all the same rights. After that if you want to go talk in tongues and snake heal at your wedding that's fine.
For many of us it isn't about marriage it is about the legal rights that accompany it that is the issue.
We all have the same natural rights no matter where on earth we are. That doesnt mean the countries we live in will respect those rights, unfortunately.

I lived in Japan with my Husband before we were able to marry for around ten years. I couldn't get a visa to stay there because of it. Obviously all of his colleagues with their wives could get one. It cost me a lot of money going back and forth and eventually entering a full time language school to get a student visa.
You do need it for immigration purposes, should your spouse be a foreigner. That is a very big deal.
Well sure but that is not the case for everyone. There are always exceptions to rules. That's a given.
