I most certainly would not want to be an NYC police officer and have to contend with this, the current NYC mayor who is ex-policeman has stated the same. There are other states with similar laws and this does not rule out any restriction, just NYC for now.
I can't imagine concealed carry on a the recent subway shooting.
You are assuming law abiding citizens are the problem, not criminals. Why is that?

This complicates the job of the policeman and increases the potential for accidental shootings. What exactly is the problem this solves, I don't want someone riding on the train taking the law into his own hands.
There are more Constitutionalist Justices now, which is as it should be. SCOTUS Justices have sworn an oath to support and defend the US Constitution, not the Democrats' political platform.
Just think of how great this ruling will be for long distance truckers. People that have to go to many places where a lot of people wouldn't dare go while carrying valuable cargo. Or getting stuck on the side of the road in some out of the way place.
God Bless America, indeed!!!
It also helps full time RVers for the same reason.

You can be gifted a gun, you can win one, you can make one. The process/fee to purchase a weapon is no different then purchasing a bullhorn/microphone/radio transmitter etc in order to effectively exercise your 1st amendment right. Charging for the very right to exercise those would be comparable. You never see a "speaking permit" requirement.
My husband has had a carry permit for many years now; in NY (not the City), Florida, and now PA. We were at our local VFW (Gun Free Zone BTW), and he and his friends were talking about RENEWING their carry permits. Think that is every 5 years here, with an additional fee. What really surprised me was that a few of these men were retired LEO's, as well as Vets. They had to get permits as well to carry in PA.
Hunting licenses are also required. They said they had to renew those as well, more fees. Wouldn't a Hunting License also be a usage charge for your 2nd Amendment Right? I suppose those Hunting License Fees are needed to pay the Game Wardens salaries. State wants the money for that.
Don’t you think “punishing law abiding gun owners” is pretty strong language? The NY law didn’t take away anyone’s guns….it limited where people could carry them. The state has a compelling interest in creating a safe public environment for its citizens, and certainly, reasonable people can disagree about the best way to do that. But it’s not illogical to consider banning (for the most part) concealed weapons in public places as a reasonable public safety measure. So, yeah, there is an argument for it. This idea that any limitation on gun rights by hard core 2nd Amendment advocates is absurd. Free speech is protected to fundamentally ensure we have free and open political discourse…but we have laws that restrict speech….you can’t libel or slander someone, you can’t yell fire in a crowded theater. I don’t see gun rights advocates fighting to repeal those limitations on constitutional rights.
It limited where law abiding people can carry them, it had no effect on where criminals would carry them.
Why is this such a difficult concept to grasp for some?
