whose speed and maneuverability make them hard to defend against?
On Thursday, the Pentagon announced again the failure of the Common Hypersonic Glide Body (CHGB) test. The failure of the U.S. missile test was the latest setback for the U.S. to develop hypersonic weapons. It was the second unsuccessful test flight of the prototype weapon known as Conventional Prompt Strike.
China already demonstrated the successful launch of a hypersonic anti-ship ballistic missile YJ-21 from its Xian H-6N bomber.
Russia is reportedly developing a hypersonic anti-ship missile called the Larchinka-MD.
The Indian/Russian BrahMos, currently have the fastest operational supersonic missile.
Right now, China and Russia have fielded weapons capable of hypersonic speed, and Russia is the first to deploy this weapon in the battle space.
Other countries, including the U.S., Australia, France, Germany, India and North Korea, have also tested or are actively developing hypersonic capabilities.
Hmm....Its also different weapoons. The US for example has just had a successful test of the counter electronics microwave weapon that disabled 7 targets before it self destructed as part of the test. https://www.c4isrnet.com/battlefield...owave-missile/
And weve been putting in high powered lasers in some things.
Its not so much that we are behind as that we have developed different weapons that they do not have. And vice versa.
Also...our black budget is more then the entire Russian military budget, so we also have whatever thats developed.
So unless there is a nuclear weapon attached it is just a very expensive way to blow up a building.
Russia has not ignited a nuclear weapon since 1989, when it was the USSR. Given the shelf life of 25 years, the level of corruption in Russia, and the extreme expense of maintaining nuclear weapons, I doubt they have one that works any more.
In an ideal world, neither the general public nor our geopolitical foes would ever know what our most advanced weapons systems are until they are deployed in combat. So who really knows.
I don’t believe China or Russia has superior weapons right now. That could change in 10-20 years, anything can happen as the US has serious societal issues that appear to be unaddressable.
But look at Russia’s weapons in Ukraine, they aren’t really all that decisive. Russia will eventually win there, but if they had weapons like the US has, they would’ve overwhelmed Ukraine in days.
As far as China, I don’t even believe them capable of defeating their neighbor Taiwan, short of dropping nukes on the island. In a conventional war, they couldn’t take that island, if the Taiwanese didn’t lose their resolve.
Lastly, neither country has very robust power projection. Meaning that they can’t sustain wars on the other side of the globe like the US can. China is working on this problem, and again, they might get there in 10-20 years, but they aren’t there right now.
I heard Russian factory workers earn only $200 per month. So, they can produce very cheap artillery shells and sophisticated missiles.
When the Marines or Ukrainians would send a marksman to hit a target, Russians just inspect an area with a drone and then obliterate the area firing hundreds of shells.
No, US is not falling behind. It still has a more advanced and capable armed forces than both Russia and China. Russia only has one aircraft carrier, and one of their destroyers is now an artificial reef sitting at the bottom of the Black Sea thanks to at least two direct hits by Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship cruise missiles. China doesn’t even have a blue water sea-lift capable navy. As far as developing weapons go, the US also has the upper hand. Here’s a look at the new US F-35 fighter jet that neither Russia or China can touch.
Among the various complaints leveled at the U.S. military’s approach to modernization, Chaillan highlighted what he sees as a lost battle between the United States and China in the field of cyber capabilities, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, or AI.
“We have no competing fighting chance against China in 15 to 20 years,” Chaillan told the FT. “Right now, it’s already a done deal; it is already over in my opinion.” He also called upon the United States to become “smarter, more efficient, and forward-leaning through agility, rapid prototyping and innovation.”

Not to mention the F-22 and an AI Battlefield we'd unleash, barring an EMP they'd probably release if they can.
