Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey on Thursday signed legislation committing more than half a billion dollars to border security.

The bulk of the spending ($335 million out of the $564 million) is earmarked for border fence construction and technology improvements. Local news media reported that equates to installing motion sensors, infrared cameras, and aerial drones – a “virtual fence” – because the federal government owns most of the land adjacent to the border and most of it is already walled.

“Inaction by President Biden has led to the worst border crisis in over 20 years,” Ducey, a Republican, said in a statement. “With this investment, we are giving our law enforcement professionals another critical resource they need to do their jobs. We are standing for the rule of law and cementing Arizona’s commitment to securing our state and our nation.”

So the motion detectors will allow the border patrol to scoop people up immediately and bring them into the nearest city so they can be processed and on their way into the interior of the country as quickly as possible.

Let’s not pretend this is going to do anything to deter any illegal from coming to the US. This is just placating the uninformed base.

What we need is mass deportations. But be careful about that, this entire country would come to a standstill because American citizens are lazy. The great resignation happened because people were tired doing office work. Who’s gonna pick fruit and vegetables? Who’s gonna wash cars, clean hotel rooms, baby sit, do landscaping? American Gen Z gonna do any of that?

I’m done with this issue. We ought to just open the border completely and get all the slave labor we can get. At least that way, my investments will grow quicker.

Great move! States like AZ and TX will have to go it alone due to the Fed's inaction and failure to do their job.

Notice how California got their border fence built as early as the 1990s and then fortified twice and is really quiet about it...they'll even criticize other states for wanting the same thing that they have along the CA/MX border.

Most of the border is already walled? The reason AZ is having a surge in smuggling is because there is a huge gap in physical barriers and BP agents.

What utter BS! Most Americans aren't lazy. Where the hell are you getting that? We have unlimited visas for crop pickers so what do we need illegals for? Most illegals aren't picking crops anyway they have taken once good paying jobs from Americans such as in the construction industry by working for less!

Americans have always done all the jobs you mentioned for a fair wage until millions of cheap illegals flooded our border. If we truly have a labor shortage then why hasn't our government increased visas for those jobs? I'll tell you why, we don't need immigrants to take low paying jobs while we have to subsidize their living costs. Geezus, educate yourself on this topic instead of making up crap!

How the hell are your investments improving with illegal aliens when they cost us over $100 billion a year? Kind of selfish of you anyway to think your investments should improve via lawbreaking, isn't it?

Trump built 450 miles of new and replacement walls. The goal was 1,000 miles. We don't need a wall along our entire border as the rest is nearly impasable terrain.

I think what the article was stating is that certain areas are already walled.

Open borders doesn't mean illegal immigration suddenly becomes legal.

Most of it is already walled --- I thought the wall fixed everything..........Maybe the wall was never the answer right?

"Most of it is walled", isn't accurate. Most of it (that means 50%+) might have some sort of barrier, like a barb wire fence used for cattle.

Even if most of it was "walled" (it's not) and the border is say 1,500 miles long, that would mean that 749 miles is not "walled" and would funnel all the trafficking, smuggling through those open areas in AZ, TX.

Obama deported 3,066,457 illegal immigrants in eight years. Trump deported 551,449 illegal immigrants in four years. I wonder how many people were deported multiple times and how many deportees are now living in the USA? It seems like we need to revisit this entire issue.
