Then start a new thread. Homicides in Chicago are at a horrible rate. A mass shooting in a small, mostly peaceful town at a 4th of July parade of all things is next level horrific.
The same day, there was a mass shooting at a block party where 3 people died and 7 were injured … about 50 miles away from Highland Park.
I wonder why that isn’t getting the same amount of media coverage.

Do you have a link to that? I'm not saying it did not happen. I just need to learn more about it to answer your question. Random people getting killed at a Fourth of July parade seems pretty newsworthy to me. It also has generated a very long thread on C-D.

Gary's mayor said his family is "heartbroken" by the news that a relative was among three people fatally shot during a Fourth of July block party in the northwestern Indiana city.
Mayor Jerome Prince said Wednesday that his cousin, Marquise Hall, 26, of Lafayette, was fatally wounded in Tuesday's shooting, along with Laurence Mangum, 25, of Merrillville, and Ashanti Brown, 20, of Olympia Fields, Illinois.

I think these cases aren't covered because sadly, no one cares. Most of us know we can go to our neighborhood party, or to a family birthday party, and there is no way someone we kind of know is going to ride up in a car and open fire on the group, causing our group to fire back. Gunplay in the front yard spilling out into the streets.
That ain't gonna happen at my family birthday parties.
And when people don't feel personally threatened, it's just not all that important to them.
But when something like a community July 4th parade, with grandpa and the little ones and the high school marching band get shot up by some nutcase firing from a roof top, people sit up and take notice, and want further updates as they are breaking. Because we're ALL vulnerable to that kind of violence.

So you believe people like you are more valuable to society and more newsworthy.

Got it.
No. I certainly never said that.
I said people don't care as gravely about a tragedy if they don't feel vulnerable themselves.
Have NO IDEA where you got the takeaway you just did. Bizarre.
I did think, though, that you would offer your theory about why gangland style shootings don't garner the public interest and thus, media coverage, that a stranger shooting into an innocent crowd does.
On the other hand, maybe skip it. I know why you think the media doesn't cover such stories.

Why would you say it was a "gangland style" shooting? Why would you think a block party wasn't an "innocent crowd"?

Interesting.
Why do I guess that?
Because the media didn't cover it.
