The red states have more people without health insurance, so they do more selfcare, with tea, horse paste, and other OTC immune boosters. Red states also have more smokers, who are less susceptible to covid, but they pay for that in general health and lifespan. The vax deaths could be called mass murder or mass suicide, depending on the levels of consent and pressure to get shots. We have seen only a sliver of the damage that will do over the next few decades.
I can only speak for my state, maybe others can chime in on theirs. NC is a solid purple state. Yes, they voted Trump in the Presidential, but voted Cooper (D) for governor. Yes legislature is controlled by (R) but they don't have enough votes to override a veto. Similar to the country as a whole, the more educated and populated areas (Raleigh, Charlotte) vote (D).
This state has had an influx of people moving here years before the pandemic. Apple, Amazon, and others relocating their second headquarters here have been drivers in the relocations. We're becoming a tech and life sciences hub, jobs that are conducive for working from home. While not as restrictive as CA or MA, we certainly had mandates, closures, etc. that lasted much longer than the true "Red" states.
