When you read the story, I'd wager dimes to donuts you had a mental image of whodunnit. You based that mental image on that which you have learned throughout the course of life via experience and observation.

Based on on going crazy and wrecking the place over $1.75, I had a mental image of whodunnit, and it differed from the one I would conjure if the headline read "crazy lady yells at cashier" or "protesters block traffic and yell at random drivers trying to commute."

You had a preconceived image. You know it.

Yep. "crazy lady yells at cashier" is a middle-aged white woman 9 times out of 10. "protestors block traffic" are mostly-white progressive 20-somethings 9 times out of 10 - with the occasional person of color in the mix to show how accepting and diverse they are.
