It’s hard for employees to do that on work days when they need an internet connection to do their jobs.

I wasn’t affected by the outage but I bet some people in my condo building are. They would have their cell phone number connected to the intercom system in the lobby to be able to buzz visitors in. No cell phone service means no buzzing in, plus no way for the visitor to contact the owner by phone to come down and open the door. That’s just one example of issues faced.

So 2018 then? I am sure indoor plumbing will be next, not to worry.

I don't understand what all the fuss was about. Just so long as they keep making butcher's string and those standard size tin cans we should be good to go for another 20 yeas or so.

Update: I had no problems using Interac yesterday and today. The problem seems to have been fixed.

On the other hand, I did have problems selecting winning Woodbine horses at the local race book, which was working just fine, Internet-wise. Maybe, if it had been down for a day or two more, I wouldn't have lost. Grumble, grumble ....

It was more than a day for some. We lost Internet in the early morning hours of Friday and it came back late Saturday night. Some people got it back earlier that day. There were no ATMS, the Interac money transfer system was down, most places could not take credit cards, which caused a big problem for people who don't carry cash because they couldn't even get any, some of the government systems were down, and people with Rogers service could not make 911 calls.

I am temporarily living in Canada. The only things I really miss about New Jersey are the availability of decent Italian and Portuguese food and my fast, reliable, fiber optic Internet. Even on normal days, the Internet up here in the GTA goes out half a dozen times a day for a few minutes each time. It's even worse in the rural area I spend time in where the only availability is satellite Internet. If it gets too cloudy, no Internet. But I expect that in the middle of nowhere.

This reminds me I need to have more cash on hand. I hate using cash, but cards not working is a major inconvenience.
