There were some recently that thought a man that had built a successful empire and who became a Billionaire celebrity business man over the course of decades and a household name round the world and married to a supermodel was an idiot.
There are also some that hold a current politician that has done nothing and has somehow always been on the wrong side of most issues in his near 50 year career feeding at the public trough as brilliant.
I do not think that we need a psychiatric test but a better test would be that any candidate has to prove that for one week they can run a successful Lemonade stand.

LOL...
In all seriousness, it would be interesting to have them all take some kind of "standard" psychological test. Or even an aptitude test. Of course it will only likely serve as a point of contention, but it may also give some folks a bit more confidence in their choice.
It's one thing we can do fairly easily. Wish we could do the same for tests for other things.

A test for common sense would be a start and a question on it could be "what is a woman".
The Dems demanded that Trump take a cognitive test which he did and passed but no one is asking that Biden take one?
I still think running a Lemonade stand would tell us a lot about a candidate from their people skills to understanding of economics, supply and demand and fiscal responsibility. Plus depending on where they set up their stand we might get a chance to see how they would crime and criminals.

I believe we should also add an ethics test.
There were some recently who think a demonstrable pathological liar who appeared to abuse the emoluments clause is a good choice for President.
There are also some who think a man described by a prominent opposition Senator as "as good a man as God ever created" is corrupt.
That would not work, as people have different opinions as to what is ethical...
For example, I find it unethical for the President to send more than five million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to China, while Americans are struggling to afford putting gasoline in their automobiles... But, it appears as though not everyone finds this unethical...
One test should be that a candidate running for prez of the U.S. actually knows and understands the full scope of the job and can demonstrate that. You know it doesn't bode well when a newly elected prez, on his first official meeting at the W.H. after the election, is heard saying, as he comes out from meeting the incumbent for 90 min, "I didn't realize all of that was the president's responsibility!"
Duh Derrrr.
And the person who wins the office of prez must be willing and able to *govern*, which is like 80% of the job. Photo ops don't count. Rallies don't count. Watching TV doesn't count. Attending meetings and reading -- lots of reading, at a higher than 8th grade level, and participating in daily briefings are part of the job, boring though it may be.
And someone to run for the office of prez should demonstrate (and be tested) on the U.S. Constitution. Their oath to protect, preserve, and defend the Constitution is among their most important jobs, if not the most important. If they don't know the U.S. Constitution, they should be immediately disqualified.
They should have a decent education collage level at minimum.
Yes. Collages are important.
