I know, right? Like when she made a surprise visit to Ukraine, the Republican felt left out, so Mitch McConnell took a small delegation to Kyiv to meet Zelenskyy. Now, I wonder if a delegation of Republican will be going to Tiawan now.
Of course. Congress plays monkey see, monkey do with each other.
Yes we should. 60% of the world's cutting edge sub-16nm chips are fabricated in Taiwan. Both China and the US are almost entirely dependent on Taiwan's semiconductor foundries. It's maybe the most valuable piece of real estate in the world. Semiconductors may be more vital to the world's economy and security (read militaries) than oil.
Haha the Chinese chips are trash and at least half a decade behind TSMC. Sample CPUs that trickle into the West don't live up to the Chinese claims (what a shock).
They are a couple of years behind, but once you know how to do something, you can evolve from there.
And I was not talking about sample CPU's, but mass-produced chips that have been sold since last year.
There are also new other types of chips apart from Silicon-based chips, and China is already among the leaders there, be it graphene, photonic etc. They want to be among the first to commercialize them. It is an interesting area because it is all new tech, so you don't depend on anyone else's IP.
Why ? There was no reason for Pelosi to go, why would there be a reason for a GOPer to go ?
But now that she did go, the Republicans need to do the same, or feel left out. It’s also good to keep momentum now that we set precedent and China did nothing. Getting normal relations with Taiwan would help our computer chip industry and it’s a great strategic asset in that part of the world.
I'm happy that the Senate passed that $52 billion semiconductor production bill, to boost production here.
Have you read that bill ? How much is actually going to physical production of a fab ?
Our last "big energy" bill was supposed to make substantial inroads to fighting climate change.
How did that work out...passed in 2009 and 13 years later....still nothing.
Censorship here is the same, entire media chains are simply declared illegal and banned. Journalists are persecuted and driven into exile. Critical views are "canceled".
Getting banned from twitter is not the same as getting spirited away to a "reeducation camp". You've revealed that you are either woefully biased or a troll so it's not worth continuing to debate.

The auto industry was especially crippled by the shortage of these chips, I'm sure the industry put some pressure them to do something. And not just the auto industry but doing something is better than not doing anything. That bill is not going to solve any problems in the near future, and we have a long road ahead to catch up Asia in this area. It's a step in the right direction, just a down payment to the future of chip production in this country.
Is there any chance that China will just find a way to keep Pelosi over there???
I'd call that a Win/Win
