History has shown us repeatedly that one of China's biggest threats is its own government. So sure, it's wise of them to control and censor all internal messaging, oppress dissent and remind their people that the *enemy* is external.

Taiwan claimed independence from China in the 40s. Mainland China has been POed ever since.
you might want to dig deeper into taiwan history man. cause thats all wrong. up till 80s, Taiwan consider ccp illegitimate government of china, and they are the legitimate government of china. up till 60s, taiwan was thinking invade mainland with support from US to re-establish its government. Taiwan also has one the longest Marshall law in the world for almost 30years, its 1st election was 1996. it also has the 92 consensus. To this day taiwan never officially claim independence, thats why there is a status quo, and why No country recognize taiwan
The 1992 Consensus is a political term referring to the alleged outcome of a meeting in 1992 between the semiofficial representatives of the People's Republic of China (PRC) of mainland China and the Republic of China (ROC) of Taiwan. Whether the meetings truly resulted in a consensus is under dispute in the ROC. The Kuomintang (KMT) understanding of the consensus is "one China, different interpretations" that the ROC and PRC agree that there is one China, but disagree about what "China" means (i.e. ROC vs. PRC). The PRC's position is that there is one China (including Taiwan), of which PRC is the sole legitimate representative.
This has to be one of the most idiotic blunders I can remember.
Global tensions are high enough. We are already engaged in a proxy war with the other superpower in Europe. Why would be antagonizing the Chinese over this? There is nothing to gain and everything to lose.
They are just following the flow of Corporate money over the past 30 years. There have been huge gains made by American investors following behind Wal-Mart and other big companies moving operations to China since the 90s and the party is still going on but it is slowing.
