I may very well be proven wrong , but I'm of the view that if anything is going to stick a metaphorical fork into the United States , it's going to be our own internal problems as opposed to the schemes of China or any other foreign country .
I'm also not nearly as pessimistic as many are , since I subscribe to the maxim of " it's not over until it's over " , however I certainly agree that very dark times lie ahead for the Union if things continue to go on as they are now .
Many are still ( IMO ) sticking their head into the sand with respect to the reality around them , mistakenly believing that being an American patriot means one must always insist that the United States is in good shape regardless of it's actual state , which is one major reason as to why our country keeps on descending into the morass of bad outcomes .
In short hope is still around the corner IMHO , but it must be worked for very hard if it is ever going to materialize .

Americans are cutting our throats and so far the answer has been find a larger knife to finish the job. We all share blame for this to a extent some more than others however.
We are loosing to China in almost every regard. There manufacturing is booming, our is dwindling. They are making deals with foreign countries all over the globe and taking away some of what was former U.S trade partners, in Africa , south and central America, in the Caribbean, as well as Europe and parts of Asia.
China has expanded their military relentlessly, they are now the top auto producer in the world, they are making deals for mining rights like lithium , they are even buying up U.S land om mainland America.
And Americans?, self absorbed in a culture war one faction wanting socialism the other not so much, spending away for illegal immigrants with a open border, more concerned about pronouns and race than anything else, ready to implode our economy even more for the sake of climate change, with 20% to 30% Americans saying the constitution is no longer relevant and 1 in 5 saying violence is justified against a political opponent .
Standards for education being dropped, and educators more interested in indoctrinating CRT and leftist agendas and teaching "social justice" rather than constitutional law.
We can't compete with China on how they are expanding, we are a nation at war with itself. A nation with irreconcilable differences just isn't going to continue to co-exist let alone come together to stand up to a foreign entity.
We spent 20 years in Afghanistan, what do we have to show for it other than getting Bin Ladin? China now went in and is making deals for precious minerals and mining rights, they don't care who the Taliban are, they don't care about pushing LGBTQ or women rights in Afghanistan, without firing a shot or loosing a soldier China is marching and sailing around the world taking over.
What is America doing? spending trillions and countless lives in wars with nothing to show for it, self hating the country on horrible it on how supposedly it treats people like with race, consumed with banning a Dr Suess book for a picture that paints Chinese in a racist light supposedly, with a vice president who spends the first 5 minutes announcing her pronouns and what color she is. Releasing criminals because it is racist to arrest them, that has created crime waves across the country and a nation that allows people like Soros to fund that.
Meanwhile China unleashed a virus that has devastated this nation morally and economically . a good portion of Americans wanting to ban you off twitter saying that because it is "racist" against Asian Chinese to say that, and China ultimately benefited from COVID against other nations in the long stretch. WHO was caught covering for the Chinese and the first thing Biden does is join WHO again no demands or questions asked because the American people, half of them anyway are more concerned about other countries than their own.
I don't think America can turn around from this anymore, the best that can happen is slow down the decay for a while but that's it.

Our country will be fine. We always survive. But there is a massive shortage of teachers now because republicans are going after them and schools. They are either quitting or retiring because they aren't paid enough to be treated like this. So what is the plan for republicans to replace them. And when has constitutional law even been taught.

I don't think our country is "done", it definitely has turmoil going on, enough to hold us back from true progress. That has to be changed, and it will, in time.

listen to some music, go outside for a nice walk.
Well said, and not much more can be added, except to say that everywhere in the world has their own local brew of social, political, religious and economic issues. That brew is milder in some places and nasty in others, and the grass is not always greener on the other side of the hill.

Some in this thread have placed blame solely on democrats and I believe they are indeed a large part of it especially of late, but it's republicans also that got us into foreign messes and also drove up the deficit, so I am and they are part to blame also.
Regarding those teachers, well in fact a lot of them deserve to be fired and the teachers union needs to be reigned in because they are a HUGE reason why the nation is withering. The reality is teachers are suppose to answer to parents not to a union that is a apparatus of the democratic party which the teachers union first and foremost goal is serving the democratic party and now that the party is controlled by the far left serving that ideology. What have the left done in a time when standards need to be brought up to compete with China? They lowered the standards in some cases erased the standards because supposedly black kids can't live up to those standards. That is not helping black kids or fixing the problem, in fact that ultimately hurts black kids and the nation even more. But in the name of "equity" don't you know?
We have seen numerous videos and reports of teachers bragging about bringing down the American flag and indoctrinating leftist ideology, which is turning out students that hate America and are willing to abolish the constitution. It is time to clean house of the far left out of education and bring back a core pro America cirriculum. That doesn't mean not teaching any dark points in American history but this woke ideology is destroying the nation. In China nationalism is considered a virtue, here in America the left consider it appalling another reason Chinese communist are beating us.
Another thing I forgot to mention in the first post, fentanyl is destroying life after American life and most of it is coming from China in the hundreds of container ships as well as air and through the lawless border the leftists have opened.
China has played a well executed guerrilla war since they were allowed into the favored world trade status. In guerrilla warfare when one is faced with a larger more well equipped enemy, you engage in tactics that makes the enemy loose moral and you use their resources against them, little by little they loose the more you gain, little by little they loose strength and you gain. We have paid for their booming industrial revolution while we kill ours, and now they are using that to finance what is now a first rate top of the line military. They have used our obsession of race and worry of being "racist" and homophobic and all the woke stuff against us to the point some worry about offending them for being Asian that truth cannot be discussed.
While we have been busy nation building that all failed worried about liberating women and gays in Islamic countries China just rolls in to them and says "look you have this we need need we will do this for you let's make a bargain we don't care who you are or what you do". But if America went to Iraq and said we are doing so because of national interests only because they have lithium and oil and such we need to maintain our way of life , half of Americans would cry that we are evil imperialistic fascists but the Chinese? they say China #1 do it!
And that is why one day the American dollar will loose world favor, and the American lifestyle will resemble more like China in 1960, if America hasn't broken apart because of internal strife by then.
And chowhound, I'm just being realistic sorry if I paint such a bleak picture by all the evidence is out there easy to see and put together.
everything the Op said is true about America. the next generation who will inherit this country is more concerned about climate change than China. The future will be their problem. likewise, China will have its own problems. The end result will be less individual liberties, lower quality of living in all aspects of life to fix a vague moving target. There will be no guns, limited private ownership of anything, healthcare without out of pocket expenses, limits on travel, limits on food, mandatory wellness checks (physical and mental), UBI, high crime, underground societies/tribalism, high density housing centers…unless you are a descendant of an already wealthy/connected family, many people will be living this way and they apparently want it that way so good for them.

If you're concerned OP, get politically active. The Left is destroying America 1.0. Whether someone finds this destruction good or bad is completely subjective. But taking the advice to ignore America's demise, while you play with your cat, is basically helping along said destruction/transformation of America. You can play with your cat, and still be politically/socially active.
