That is just one narrative, Austria had wanted to start a war against Serbia for years before Franz Ferdinand was murdered, they were just waiting for a pretext. Maybe it was a false-flag operation.

The war in the Balkans was also rather complex, there are various narratives...

Just another dumb ethnic\religious\nationalism war in Europe.

The only thing that actually slowed them down in the scope of recorded history is the invention of nuclear weapons.

It’s the great powers that fanned the flames of every war in the Balkans.

In the 90s it was Germany when they offered to recognize Slovenia/Croatia if they declared independence from Yugoslavia. Even sent them weapons through Hungary.

For WW1 it was very much Austria-Hungary who annexed Bosnia-Hercegovina then decided to send their archduke on an open air drive through Sarajevo on the Serbs most important holiday. A provocation! Of course they killed him. The rest is history.

Nah, it was probably about NATO taking a side in a brutal civil war and bombing a country, without UN authorization.

P.S. Oh, and redrawing borders POST WW2. I guess in some special cases that's allowed?

P.S2. Guess what , the "freedom fighters" were indicted in the Hague.
