Might be in America's best interest to obliterate the computer chip factories when the CCP reclaims Taiwan. The alternative puts the entire western world in a vulnerable position.

hmm we buy plenty of stuff, including a lot of needed medications from China, why would chips be any different. Far less risky for us to just open our own factories, that is the true solution. Not War with a nuclear power. once again insanity, people seem to be itching at their trigger fingers. There are plenty of more valid reasons to go after China, yet we allow them to enslave groups of people and farm their body parts so we dont interrupt our flow of Apple products....

^This. Among other manufacturing & trade and military issues.

My understanding is that a Taiwanese company, maybe a couple, manufactures something like 5 nano gram or millimeter chips, unique in the world. It seems the US has signed an agreement with the company to build a chip factory in the US, Arizona I think, but I’m not sure if it’s for these microchips and in any case it wouldn’t start operating overnight and there are various hurdles to jump.

According to some military analysts, China could not launch a successful one-shot invasion of Taiwan for military technical reasons.

However. they might be able to impose a sea and air blockade.

In that case, I am not sure to what extent the US would take military action to break it or who would win a war involving submarines, other naval power, long-range missiles, and fighter jets, and who would be willing to do what and risk what.

In my view, so far Chinese saber-rattling seems childish, and in any case not impressive; at some point they would have to put up or shut up, as the saying goes.

I don’t notice that the Russians rattle, they seem to wield first, then maybe rattle a bit later.

Afghan parents are farming their children's kidney to buy food.
Many are not as luck as we are with dozens of credit cards in our wallet.

yes, some are suggesting Taiwan citizens start stocking up on food and water.
It takes years to build a semi conductor factory and cost billions.
but how did we cope back in old days without chips?
Did our electric fans have chips?what about toaster, hairdryer, ovem, fridge?

Genuinely curious about this...
There is FAR more reason to come to the aid of Taiwan than Ukraine. Taiwan is a peaceful, successful democracy, whereas Ukraine is one of the most corrupt nations on earth. Taiwan is a major trading partner with this country and the rest of the world. Perhaps more important, China is far more of a threat to this country, and the rest of the world, than Russia ever will be.

Yeah, if it looks like Taiwan is going to fall, this is what we should do. Take the advantage away from them.

AGGhHCK. How many times have I gotta say this? Yes. We go balls to the wall with China over Taiwan. Taiwan is the most valuable piece of real estate on the planet. It's semiconductor fabs make something on the order of 90% of the world's microchips. They make over 60% of the bleeding edge sub-16nm chips that run everything from your tablets, laptops and phones, to the cloud servers in the datacenters. If China gets the world's chip supply the world's economies come to a stop. Full collapse.

There is an old saying among survivalists:
You can't defend your homestead from the mailbox.

If the enemy gets to your front door, the war is lost.
