Just think of how great the world would be if every f'n country minded its own business and took care of their own problems from within. There are no winners in war.
That's what we said about Russia invading Ukraine.
As I recall, in January the U.S sent serious warnings to Ukraine and other countries about an upcoming invasion. The warnings weren’t taken as seriously as they should have been. Of course, the 100,000 Russian soldiers amassing on the border should have been a big clue.
If China invades Taiwan, should the USA get involved? What do we have to lose - what does the world have to lose, if Twn falls under China rule? Should we try and stop China, or should we let it go?
Genuinely curious about this...
NO
Don't really care about Taiwan, it's NOT OUR PROBLEM.
As an alternative, I've thought that the US should carve out a similar size territory out of the west coast of the CONUS, and essentially give it to Tai Wan. Let them relocate their entire country their, including their population and industrial base. Just recreate the whole thing on the other side of the pacific, then nuke the island of Formosa to oblivion, either figuratively (with bulldozers) or literally. Leave absolutely no one and nothing of use on the island. Then hand it over to the Chinese.
Another option would be to sell Tai Wan nuclear missiles. I was thinking something like a Trident D5 on a truck launcher. Not put US controlled missiles on Tai Wan. Just sell them the missiles and let the Taiwan government control them. Then let China think about invading Tai Wan.

We have to and will let it go.
It's too late by far to get prepared to have prevented this, short of going back in time and having Trump in office.
It's too late, it's too little too late, it's done.
It's a huge bleep sandwich and we are all going to take a bite, until we all start speaking the same language.
Here's the shocker, the thing nobody will believe. Taiwan will kick the bleep out of China. Also, Vietnam will let thermo-nuclear war happen before they take any bleep from China.
i have a longtime friend who was originally from Taiwan and whose family is still there. I have been there myself and really loved it. This said no self defense treaty means to me we dont go to war for it. We could have had a treaty for decades back even when we were at our military height and China was still mostly third World Nation with Nukes. And we did not. We allowed the Sino American defense treaty to expire in 1980 and left it that way. Going to War with a nuclear power over somebody who we do not have a military defense treaty with would be ridiculous. Oh and least we forget we have no treaty with Ukraine either. People are insane.
The Taiwan Relations Act stipulates, that Congress would have to vote to defend Taiwan if it were attacked. The Act also allows for the provision of arms to Taiwan. On how far the US would go in the case of aggression against Taiwan, the Act is deliberately vague.
Quote:
The Act states that "the United States will make available to Taiwan such defense articles and defense services in such quantity as may be necessary to enable Taiwan to maintain a sufficient self-defense capabilities", and "shall maintain the capacity of the United States to resist any resort to force or other forms of coercion that would jeopardize the security, or social or economic system, of the people of Taiwan". However, the decision about the nature and quantity of defense services that America will provide to Taiwan is to be determined by the President and Congress.

Post 32 -- well said.
You're good with China being the sole supplier of advanced semiconductors in use in every electronics device in the US including our military's secret weapons? That, even though the US is currently doing everything we can to reduce reliance on Chinese semiconductors due to national security concerns?
Just think before, during, and shortly after World War Two we were the greatest industrial power in the world. Because of that we were able to win the war. Yamamoto knew this and proclaimed after Pearl Harbor that they had "awakened sleeping giant".
Before WWII Britain and Germany were arguably more industrialized than the US, especially given the Depression forcing factories all over the US to close.
The US industrial base grew dramatically during the war, as there was no threat of attack. However, Britain still managed to build tens of thousands of airplanes and other military equipment. The US was able to focus on growing industry without worrying about bombing attacks.
After WWII, the US was the only industrialized country of any size that had not been bombed into oblivion, so of course we dominated the world in manufacturing.
