It’s pretty simple to understand. The investigators had to prove to a federal judge there were evidence and facts showing a crime was committed. That is the only way to get a search warrant.
The only way Trump gets out of this is if it ends/dies right here. If he’s indicted then it’s game over and he’s disqualified from holding public office again. All of you think he’s innocent. What are you worried about? If he’s innocent as he claims it ends with the search. If not he won’t run again.
I think one of two things happen. And neither of them involve running for president.
1. He holds the line, tweets and claims innocence. He’s charged with a federal crime, indicted and barred from running.
2. They work out a deal with the FBI to avoid jail time, which means part of the deal he will never run or hold office again.
Trump will never hold elected office again. I think #2 is what exactly will happen. Part of the deal will be he won’t run for elected office again or campaign for officials
Fair take. It will be interesting if any others, i.e. Guiliani, can get the same treatment, or are forced to fall on their swords for him again.
Also, right at the top of the list is why would DeSantis tank his Presidential hopes for a guy that lost the popular vote in every election he's been in and (other than his 30% die hards) most Americans would just rather see go away entirely? Not exactly the recipe for a win in 2026.

GOP base feels about trump most voters see him as dishonest, craven and unfit to be president. His supporters are thought to be under educated conspiracy theorists and he has driv n suburban women out of the Republican Party
Another possibility is that they used the "classified documents" as just an excuse to raid his private property. We all know how many times there's "discovery" as part of serious trials. The democraps are hoping to find stuff that is unrelated and wasn't the actual reason given to justify the raid.
I even personally know a few individuals who were raided for simple offenses but served serious time for items that were seized during the raid and introduced into the trial as discovery.
The democraps are banking on a lot of things. Finding actual items they are looking for to justify the raid, but most importantly, items that they weren't looking for but can use against him for the upcoming 2024 election.

The DOJ had to have an airtight case to even ask for a warrant. Trump could challenge them in court.
The DoJ had to provide a list of what they were looking for. Trump had that list, too. He could have just given it to them. But they knew he would raise a stink and use it for fundraising. Anybody with a brain knew it could start a civil war.

If his taxes were legal and accepted by the IRS, what’s the big deal? If the existing laws make it so he paid $0 in taxes or even got a refund, good for him.

Lol. It’s an investigation. There’s no proof to a crime, but please do tell what crime because Trump has committed?
Since when is someone unable to run for political office if they’re indicted. Indictment doesn’t mean guilty.
Because Trump hasn’t even said he’s running again, but the obsession to try to keep him from running again is priceless. They’re so scared of him they’ll do anything they can to try to get him.

So you are still ignoring the Presidential Records Act. It has been posted numerous times in this thread, or you can Google it.
Basically, all Presidential documents belong to the government, and not the President or ex-president. The National Archives is the custodian of the docs. Trump doesn't get to keep presidential documents at his house.
And one more time in case they missed it the first, 2nd and 3rd time, the National Archives controls the presidential papers in the presidential libraries.
