After NARA got through inventorying and checking all the documents back in from the boxes that were picked up in June, they immediately knew what was still in Florida. That is when the warrant process was begun.

The fact that Trump didn't return all of the documents when asked looks like he had other plans for some of them.
Just think of the hubris of the man, to think he has a right to keep these documents, and refused to return then when subpoenaed. As if laws don't apply to him. Unbelievable.

Simply put, the man took things which did not belong to him, he was asked for them and he refused.

This is not rocket science, and there is no plot to persecute him. He is a free man out there telling lies about how the FBI raided his hotel, and he's probably already sending fundraising emails.

All he had to do was give the stuff back. He didn't.
Do you honestly believe trump has any idea what’s in rando boxes in a storage room in the basement?

To paraphrase Dana Perino, it was irresponsible of the White House to claim that nobody in the White House was informed (whether or not that is true). That becomes irresponsible and a dereliction of duty because even if they did not want to have to deal with something that they think is repugnant or ugly, it is still the Commander-in-Chief’s responsibility to oversee the executive branch. And it is also his responsibility to be able to be informed and weigh in and use his judgment. That’s why he was elected.
There is no way Biden could weigh in without igniting even more insanity on the right. He is doing the best possible thing at this moment. (Though I agree he certainly knows more than is being claimed)

I've mentioned it several times but gets little response but this was obviously pushed by someone with influence. Have to wonder if it was Liz Cheney's father Dick Cheney ex vp and maybe ex Washington DC insider who helped moved this along. The question would be did Dick do it on his own for his little girl or did she ask him. This might explain some of the ambiguity or vagueness surrounding the warrant.

I just don't think so.. as you can see it made the Jan 6, show trial irrelevant and isn't going to help Liz in her election.

They had a list of missing documents. How is that in any way a witch hunt?

Trump is in a lose-lose situation.

Object, and it is clear he is hiding something.

Not object, and the world will know what he is hiding.

Garland's chess move trumps Trump's checkers.

Take it up with the USAG, the Director of the FBI, and Judge Rinehardt. They all seem to think it was legal, and they are the lawyers. I'll bow to their expertise.

The part of the story I didn't fully understand until today was that there had been subpoenas giving Trump opportunities to turn over these documents, which would surely have headed off the ugliness of having a search warrant executed on his home.

There is little doubt that his lawyers were begging and pleading with him to do exactly than when he received those subpoenas. But we all know Trump by now, he never takes advice from anyone. Instead he stubbornly refused these reasonable requests, which inevitably forced the FBI/DOJ to issue their search warrant.

Like you say this isn't complicated. But it is predictable. Can you imagine being a lawyer and having someone like Trump as your client? It would be a nightmare.

How many documents were on the list? I don't think you know.
