The rest of your statement doesn’t agree with that…at least in my opinion

That's exactly right. Short of absolute proof he's been disclosing TS info to foreign govts., DOJ won't do anything.

Realistically, DOJ doesn't WANT to do anything.

Chris Wray on CNN a few minutes ago said the purpose of the search was to MITIGATE RISK of disclosure of these documents, NOT to put Trump in jail.

For all the obvious reasons, I'm sure DOJ wishes it hadn't been forced to be this aggressive in retrieving documents which should have never left a govt facility in the first place./
Whatever 'reasons' you're implying don't seem very obvious to me...

Why shouldn't classified documents have ever left a government facility in the place?

Cases in NY and GA have a better chance of conviction.

NARA got their documents back and the classified ones were properly secured. And Donald got his passport back for his trip next week.

And consider how an atmosphere of “treasure hunting” as Trump’s term came to an end made it so easy to snatch away papers that NEVER should have left government holding….

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/0...-lago-00052272

Most of those working for Trump and his sycophants were about as smart as the guy at Dairy Queen who asks if “you want nuts with that”….
Selfish, unprofessional, and in awe of Trump—the worst POTUS who likely will EVER sit behind the desk in the Oval Office….a stain on American democracy

If he doesn’t go to jail for taking those documents AND using them as leverage to better himself… which likely can be proven if they are brave enough… this country is a dumpster on fire…

Until they find out Trump has shared that info with someone like the Saudis or the Russians or maybe Israel w/o approval by the current administration…
Just because they were stashed someplace doesn’t mean they have been “secured”…as they would have if Trump had not taken them in the first place…

You know they were not “unclassified”

People who believe in the rule of law are like that. They want suspects prosecuted.

The obvious reasons are the firestorm arising whenever one pokes the bear named Trump. Those are the obvious reasons DOJ wishes Trump hadn't disregarded national security, putting DOJ in the position of forcing him to comply with the law, provoking the ire of Trump and subsequent inflaming of his supporters.

As to "why shouldn't unclassified documents ever have left a government facility in the place?"

Answer: Because they WERE CLASSIFIED, as has been cited over and over and over on this thread.

Or, would you prefer everything be unclassified and all secrets left unsecured readily available for anyone who wishes to view them?

Because Trump, as a candidate, didn't agree while campaigning, when he said this::
Quote:
we are going to restore honour to our government. In my administration, I’m going to enforce all laws concerning the protection of classified information. No one will be above the law,” Mr Trump said
