By pleading the Fifth, isn’t Trump admitting he’s avoiding self-incrimination? In other words, he’s admitting he’s done something illegal?

Any lawyers here? Trump did not say he was "avoiding self-incrimination", he said he was declining to answer the questions "under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution".
The first thing a judge will say to a jury in jury instructions in a trial is the jury may not infer anything when a witness or respondent invokes a Fifth Amendment right.
What the Fifth Amendment says is no person "shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself". The courts have expanded that right to civil cases such as this one. The State (government) cannot make you testify. That is a bedrock of American civil rights.
Of course innocent people use their Constitutional rights, it is ignorant, naive or disingenuous to say otherwise

Which is taking the fifth.
"If you're innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?" -Donald Trump
Unfortunately, we’ve seen the track record of these kinds of Republicans. They often cut deals with democrats and ignore the will of their party base. This creates a rift in the party which opens up the door for candidates like Trump to be elected.
Moderate Republicans need to learn to take harder lines in the sand, if they had there would have never been a fracture in the GOP which led to Trump.
If moderate republicans took harder lines in the sand, they would no longer be moderate.
He is a stain on the Republican Party really. Wish he would go away and I am a Republican. What would be best for our country is a moderate Republican to take over. Sadly, the leftists regime will find a way to beat them one way or the other.
Loser mentality. Trump is the best thing gay has happened to conservatives in a long long time. The Republican Party has been a RINO party for too long.
Establishment Republicans have been the problem. Bushes, McCain, Romney and others. Rotten RINOs. Trump was a cure for that cancer. He pointed fingers at rotten politicians on both sides. That’s why they despise him. Open your eyes.
