One of my favorite aphorisms is that, however bad it is in the US, it's worse everywhere else.

In reality what will probably unite us is that some other major country will go through a crisis worse than ours, flip out, and suddenly we will have a common enemy to unite us.

1. No dehumanizing opponents. No calling Republicans "MAGAts," no calling Democrats "libt--ds." In WWII all of the countries Axis and Allies dehumanized their opponents to make it easier to hate and easier to kill the enemy. We must always recognize the humanity of humans. Speak out against this, especially when your side does this.

2. Turn off media that makes you angry or seeks to rile people up.

3. Get out of the echo chamber. If you read/watch/post about the news, look at multiple sources not just the sources that make you happy/secure in your beliefs. Most Americans can't accurately describe the motives and positions of the opposing party....including most that think they can. This is what scientific studies say.

4. Most people in the opposing party are good people if you get to know them. The problem is we don't want to too often.

5. Seek out political compromises knowing that each party won't get 100% of what it wants.

6. Don't be afraid to vote in moderates.

7. Look inward to avoid hypocrisy. If you are outraged when the other side does something, don't excuse it when your side does it too.

8. Don't divide people up into groups or make superficial judgments about groups.

9. Love and serve your neighbor as you would have happen to yourself.

What do you all think? Where am I right, where am I wrong? What would you add?
The problem is that Republicans view Democrats as wrong, Democrats view Republicans as evil.

There is no "healing" from that.

They are also busy projecting their own belief that all White people are Racist and somehow we all need to be made to pay for things they we were never involved in such as slavery and fighting against Civil Rights.

How do we start to Heal? We dump this idea that Black and Brown people are perpetually oppressed by the White man. We need to stop making excuses for the poor criminal behavior of minorities and make them atone and take personal responsibility for their actions. We need to stop giving them a pass with Affirmative Action, No Bail and cheapened educational requirements.

I think it is Racist to give these people a pass because they are just as smart as White People and all they need to do is apply themselves and get on the Right path. It is wrong to keep them down by allowing them to wallow in their own self pity of oppression. It is wrong to let them think that the White Boogey man is out to get them and keep them poor.

This whole nonsense the Left is peddling that the Monster of Racism, Racist Cops with itchy trigger fingers and the rise of the White Supremacist or should we just call them the Ultra Uber MAGA Neo Nazi Proud Boy Skin Head, Domestic Terrorist Deplorable is garbage.

Once we get past the Lies the Democrats use to keep us divided and in Fear we can start to heal.
It just doesn't sound like you actually know any real people who are not white.

We have to wade through too many extremists and name callers to actually get to the common ground -- to even recognize the common ground.

A sub-forum to this forum -- where name-calling, and offensive extreme comments, and bizarre conspiracy theories would be expressly prohibited, under penalty -- would be an interesting experiment to see how and whether people can relearn civil discourse. Those folks that come here only to poke a thumb in someone's eye, make personal attacks, or to create undo controversy or fake allegations would be shown the door. I think there are plenty of people on this forum who would welcome a normal and civil discussion of common concerns. You see it in other forum content. I suspect that the forum would have a higher level of intellectual discussion, would be boring to some, less entertaining, and threads would be somewhat shorter without all of the name calling and personal attacks.
There is, it's titled "Great Debates." Most of us here in PnC would be banned in a week.

You are either all in with their Far Left schemes or you are OUT and they have no use for you.

The Reps are still a centered but the Dems have been taken over by the SJW Woke Far Left that seek to tear it all down.

We are going to continue to be divided and hurting as long as the Democrats continue on their current path.

I can't imagine what is going to happen if Trump should win the WH again. I actually fear that his kids will find themselves without a Father. The Dems have viciously and vindictively thrown everything at him and they are so warped with the TDS that ending him could be their last resort.

The Democrats need to return to the Center and make America and her people a priority again. We don't care about being carbon neutral in 10 years, we don't care about Jan 6th when we are having trouble today deciding between Gas, Medicine or Food and safety concerns stemming from the Open Border to career criminals roaming the streets.

How do we start to Heal? The Democrats need to dump the Far Left agenda, return more to the center and stop being so ugly, angry and vindictive.

Except plenty of anti-Trump people aren't Democrats and aren't leftists/aren't 'on the left'.

first, take anythng and everything from the Atlantic with the same grain of salt you would a "FoxNews!1!!" link.

Second, from that link, the author states:

Quote:
America’s political divisions are driven by hatred of an out-group rather than love of the in-group. The question is: Why?
At the moment, I'm not going to bother finding it, but it is true that of every racial/party group in America, there is exactly 1 that disfavors (doesn't like) their own race:

White Democrats.

So the question becomes, why do white Democrats have self-loathing?

Honestly, I'm not sure if healing is possible. What the Democrats have done, and continue to do, this country is unforgivable. They thrive on hatred and intolerance. I am beyond disappointed in my fellow Americans who continue to support them. Sadly, I think we are rapidly nearing the point of no return. I feel truly sorry for today's young people, for they will have to pay for the recklessness and willfully hatefulness of today's Democrats.

Too late. The left own the FBI, IRS and every other gov agency. The left have MSM, social media and other other things that matters for cheating and winning the next election. Corruption rules They are calling the shots now. There is absolutely nothing we can do. Trump will be arrested and not one things that we can do. IRS is coming after us to take money from us. The dems will win the next presidential election because they will cheat but who will say they cheated since every agency is on their side. They claim they didn't cheat and they win. Now, they own us. They finally did it. The puppeteers guiding Biden, have won.

We just need to accept this because absolutely nothing we can do.

Everyone can stand behind Trump to win but it's a waste of time. He's going to jail because it's what the left wants and we'll have a dictator. Again Trump was right about what he said if Biden wins. If Biden wins you may never have a republican president again. Trump is smart and he saw the future. He's been right about everything so far and he's right about this. We are doomed.
