Socialism is when a tax paid fire department arrives to put out a fire from your burning home. Capitalism is when a profit driven insurance company denies your claim.
No, that's not socialism as it's defined. That's just tax payers funded basic services, along with police and public schools. All of which I support within a capitalistic society.
What's happening in this country right now is a push for massive government control and regulation with a large social welfare program similar to northern Europe.
That's one view, the other is a push for full communism.
Many say that people who advocate for socialism are only using it to advance communism.

Is there truth in that, maybe, I don't know.
It's public ownership via taxes (some say theft) of the means of production of a service (firefighting). It's certainly socialist (in a vacuum), unless you want to argue that public ownership is something other than taxes in a society that uses currency. What else would public ownership look like?
That's why I don't trust billionaires as having the best interests in mind for the common working person, especially if they were born already rich as in Trump and him saying in 2016 that he thought wages are too high.
Socialists haven't been taking over. We still don't have universal health care.
I was so sure we would finally have that with Obama being elected and Hillary being in his administration. He also had the favor of the house and senate as well as the SCOTUS, so he could have drafted a great universal health care for everyone, and instead, he gave us Obamacare which is a complete disaster.
Anyone who believes they should be allowed to keep what they earn and not give it to people who don't work is a Nazi.
Well I'm not sure what that has to do with a bunch of murdering homicidal maniacs.
But I do believe in keeping what I make and IF I decide to donate a SMALL portion, then that's my business. Other than that, "if you don't work, you don't eat".

Its a city provided service that is paid for by taxes. The city owns some assests in the process of doing their services. It's a capitalist society here that has some elements that could loosely be viewed as socialism, but not really.

This argument comes up here all the time.
Fair enough, that's why I put "in a vacuum" in, and mentioned that virtually every country is considered a mixed economy.

Yeah, I noted that, I wasn't try to be rude.
