I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate. Senate races are just different," the GOP leader said. "Candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome."

Oz in Pennsylvania being a good example of a poor quality candidate.

I imagine that Senator McConnell is upset at Mr. Trump. Why? Because there are only so many dollars that may be gathered from the Republican faithful, and Mr. Trump's leadership PAC has been getting the lion's share, without being distributed to Republican candidates (a few instances, yes, but piddling amounts).

The Senate GOP campaign arm has decided to cut advertising dollars to three Senate races: Wisconsin, Arizona and Pennsylvania. See:

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/15/u...a-arizona.html

The reason is simple: donations are down.

As for Pennsylvania, I bet that the fact that Mr. Oz is a wealthy man was also a factor. He is probably one of the poor quality candidates referred to by Mr. McConnell, and so let him finance his own ads.

I still think it an interesting fact: Republicans tend to donate to the RNC or PACS, which then determines where to direct the money. Democrats tend to donate directly to the candidate. It is not a hard and fast rule, so please don't bother with your personal examples trying to prove me wrong.

Interesting comment from McConnell. Let's be truthful, "candidate quality" is code for "far right looneytoon crazy". People out here especially middle class, middle aged folks are starting to wake up. Trump thinks voters are stupid in OH and PA. He thought he could force weak candidates like Dr. Oz and JD Vance down their throats and and they would mindlessly line up like sheeple to vote for them, simply because he approved them.

He should have taken a harder look at neighboring West Virginia. Why does a very conservative state like WV support a centrist Democratic senator like Manchin? Of course Trump taking the time to UNDERSTAND the people he is trying to manipulate is beyond him.

Pennsylvania is weak. Dems are pulling the D lever no matter who the candidate is, even Fetterman who’s done nothing and has lived off his parents his entire life. Folks have left the state in droves due to how it’s been run the last few years. The live in fear and shut it down folks have taken over.

Well, we can't all be as high quality as Mitch McConnel (ahem).

He knew supporting Trump was going to bite him in the behind eventually. He is probably shocked that he was able to effectively walk back his condemnation of the Jan 6 attack without attracting too much hate from mainstream Americans. But the experience has cemented his belief that most people in his own party are vapid sheep, and for that, he is about to lose his Senate leadership position.

Not sure what you mean by weak? Pennsylvania still has 2 senators, 18 congressional delegates, and 20 electoral votes for President no matter what you think of the state.

The issue is Republicans are beholden to Trump's demands that a candidate push election conspiracy. Quality republicans are not going to push election conspiracy. Dr OZ is the outlier he didn't really push election conspiracy but isn't well liked by anyone really. I keep saying it OZ should have run as a Democrat probably would have done better without Trump's endorsement.

The live in fear, shut it down, free stuff folks have taken over. It’s why many folks have left the state in droves the last few years due to how poorly our Governor handled the plandemic.

Lol at Republicans being beholden to election conspiracy.

Fetterman is a freeloading clown, but posing as an every man that’s lived off mommy and daddy for much of his life, he defends poor entitled criminals, and dresses like a slob. Even after suffering a stroke, can’t remember what he’s saying, repeating words, etc…, he’ll have no problem winning. As to Oz, it’s been hilarious how his wealth has been so criticized, even by Fetterman, lol.

What does it matter who left has nothing to do with who controls the senate. OZ in this environment was a bad pick he is not a tinfoil hat crackpot spitting conspiracy theorist Trump usually endorses. Democrats won't vote for anyone who Trump is connected to. Fetterman could be anyone and still win that is how much damage Trump has done.

Donald Trump launched a furious attack on 'broken down hack' Mitch McConnell and his 'crazy wife' in bust-up over GOP Senate candidates.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that McConnell's comments about GOP Senate candidates were "an affront to honor and to leadership."

The former president also made a disparaging comment about McConnell's wife, Elaine Chao, who served as Trump's Transportation Secretary and was one of the first Cabinet officials to resign after the Capitol riot. She is reported to have spoken to the House January 6 panel earlier this month.
