The office of the Presidency has become way too powerful, both sides abuse presidential power. The POTUS could be controlled by checks and balances, but as I said they have disappeared.

The SCOTUS is a group of judicial activists that have become just another legislative body.

Every institution (CIA, FBI, pentagon, congress, media) is under attach and being diminished on a daily basis. We are a country of laws, but not when people position themselves to be above the law.

Next year when SCOTUS rules on Moore v Harper, this will gives state legislators unlimited control over elections. When that happens "we the people" will lose the power of the vote, state legislators will determine the winners.

Just a few examples of how our democracy is being threatened.
All true, but "we aren't a democracy" according to the fools that want to dump our system of free and fair elections into the trash. The reason why they keep returning time and time again to that mantra is simple; the end goal of the radical minority on the far Right is to establish a one-party autocratic state. Always has been. And the only way that can be accomplished is to destroy the rule of law, and most importantly, to take away your most fundamental right - the right to representation.

From clever gerrymandering to nullify your vote for Representatives, to installing Big Lie puppets in state election systems and secretaries of state and governorships, they are whittling away at that most precious right, day after day.

On the heels of our victory from the oppression of a King, our founders made some foolish starry-eyed assumptions. They believed that the American citizenry would never be deluded enough to follow a leader ready, willing and able to rip apart the very structure that granted the freedoms that they had just fought and died for.

The reality is that no Republic, no representative democracy, can stand before a continuous assault from within, as we are seeing today from Donald Trump and his sycophants. We are teetering on the edge here in 2022. The next two election cycles will seal the deal for the American experiment.

The funny part is that even if the Trumpists "win" and manage to establish the one-party police state that they have always dreamed about, the pawns out in the heartland will be the first to suffer. They think that they will get a seat at the table, and a few surely will. But the great majority will quickly learn that in an authoritarian state where elections are meaningless, they no longer have any value. We will ALL be under the boot. Just have a look at Putin's Russia to see the inevitable end-game.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Or, to put it in other terms, Paul doing a greater wrong doesn't justify Peter doing an arguably lesser wrong. If one kid vandalized cars in a parking lot while his brother shoplifted a candy bar, would you approve of a parent who downplayed the second boy's acts because his act was less physically damaging than the first? I sure hope not.

I say arguably on two counts: 1) In the long term, it damages the nation's social climate; hateful speech encourages dehumanization of others, i.e. gives the haters permission to be their worst selves. 2) damaging a social climate in the long run is much more damaging than dropping bombs on buildings, even if the immediate short term damage is more visibly dramatic.

And all this is why your bringing up drone attacks is just a deflection, not a meaningful response.

It seems your side didn't learn anything over the past 6 or 7 years. If a candidate is willing to consistently be rude, disrespectful, bigoted and cruel things about certain groups of people or even individual persons; then that person will have no qualms about dishing out a raw deal to their loyal supporters (throwing loyalists under the bus when it suits his purposes). Not to mention the nation as a whole. It may not be as cuttingly humiliating as his first cruel remarks, but it has NOT been a pleasant experience.

Also, words do influence others. If it's possible to be improved by good words, it's possible to be destroyed by bad words. The free speech absolutists can't have their cake and eat it too.

"Mean words" also creates an atmosphere that gives a false legitimacy to hateful attacks. See Kristallnacht and Rwanda for details.
Hurt feelings and mean tweets have caused votes for countless debacles including skyrocketing Bidenflation, border crisis, Aghan debacle, etc…, and let’s not forget war, which has caused many issues for folks well-being.

Lol. The goosechase over the last 6 was because poor Hillary lost, and feelings were so hurt because of it impeachment talks started even before the election, and continued through a pandemic with nothing to show for it.

Dems have no problem using mean words, so the hypocrisy is alive and well.

He certainly can’t barely do anything right, especially as we see the debacles continue to add up. He is, however, fabulous at passing out free stuff and especially come election time. The promise of a last minute stimmy if he won, and now student debt relief. No telling what he comes up with next as we watch that Bidenflation soar.

That being the case, then pray tell how is it that it is not "brainwashed" liberals crying in front of judges that they stormed the Capitol and assaulted the police on Jan 6 because some politician told them that the election had been stolen?

Quite the blanket statement when there were only a few 1000 protesters….but let’s not forget this after losers burned it down, looted, caused violence, etc…, to the tune of $2B. I do love her backpedaling, lol. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/04/19/p...ial/index.html

Most presidents do not bomb American Citizens. That’s the difference.

One of Trump’s own Threats to Democracy is due to be sentenced for his role in The Trump-led insurrection on September 1 for trying to kill Capitol Police with a flagpole with a Marine Corps flag on it. He was a Marine for four years and a cop for ten. He is facing 17-1/2 years, which is on the low end of the sentencing guidelines.

The crimes being tried are getting worse, and the sentences longer, and there are still @500 more cases to try, so far. People are still being arrested. It won’t be long before sentencing crosses the 20 year threshold.

All of this is directly due to Trump’s failed coup attempt. Quite a few of the participants have testified they were only there because Trump asked them to be, including the one who testified during the 1/6 Hearings.

Funny how that question wasn't asked. The Red v Blue stuff is so entertaining, its hard not to get lost in it.

Hunters laptop clearly contains evidence of criminal behavior, & its been mothballed for 2+ years by the FBI & DOJ to protect Sleepy Joe, & the Biden Family Crime Syndicate...."the big guy".

Trump's boxes may or may not contain evidence of wrongdoing, & they've been the headline daily. If they really had anything, it would have already been on the front page of the New York Slimes. Its just a distraction from inflation & recession.

Trump has boxes of docs that will destroy the swamp, but they are not, or never have been, at Mar A Lago.

"Threats Against Democracy" has been my # concern since we started being sold out to China decades ago.

Biden never told his voters that he'd have to destroy our economy, & our disposable incomes to get these 3 things done though....a major oversight, a blatant lie, & just incompetence fueled by senility?

If he had told them that, would they have still voted for "basement man"? His approval ratings indicate that answer to be a resounding "NO".
