You have to make sure that you go to the CC in the same state as the university or else some of the classes will not count. I had to retake a lot of classes because the university wouldn't accept them.

Even in NY State - you can go to a SUNY school for 4 yrs for less than $40 and that's on the high end. The bulk of these student loans are because kids want to have the full experience - go away to college - so you pay non resident prices and live in the dorms or off campus which doubles what you pay for tuition.

My son choose to go out of state but he also already knew what the total cost would be that he needed to pay back.

Now a days college is a requirement for almost every profession which it wasn't in the old days. Beauticians came out of a BOSES program in high school - same with mechanics. Police officers didn't need degrees to apply for the force. Secretaries took business and typing classes in high school - no need for a college degree - now.....

Absolutely.

Bingo. Sadly, much of this money was spent on things like cars, parties, cellphones, movies, etc..

You are supposed to be getting an education, not going to trade school. Half should have no connection to your major, but will make you a more well rounded person.

Correct, kids want the full "college experience." Big state school, parties, off campus apartments, sporting events, pep rallies, and more parties. They're not worried about if the degree is marketable, because taxpayers are going to fund the loan. They're worried about the fun.

Yes, a college degree is the easiest (and legal) way to narrow the list of candidates.

Or in today's world can get their degree by doing courses on line from reputable universities.

"Correct, kids want the full "college experience."

And this is where things go awry. The "college experience" should be nothing more than preparing, and learning the skills / knowledge for a particular chosen career. Anything other than that is a complete waste of money.

I want to see all those PPP loans repaid. Huge amounts being used to buy land and homes. Not used for the purpose intended, to keep business around during the pandemic.
