If a US office job pays you $50K or even $30K a year and it’s through a checking account with BoA or Wells Fargo or Chase, they have sponsored banks worldwide , in some countries that’s more than medical surgeons earn in other countries
In the Philippines, the cost of absolutely everything reflects a MUCH lower wage. Doctors earn $35K, Accountants earn less than $10,000 a year, And low-skilled workers make $200 per Month!!!
That means stimulus checks in America paid more than a years !!!! Of continuous full time work in the Philippines.
When Filipinos travel to America it’s off a substantial savings and if they relocate they starve unless they find a job immediately in the US, which they usually do by offering any job at any legal wage which for them is a ton , and while cutting housing by living with lots of people in a small apartment
But Americans who have ANY passive income or a US remote consulting job , will find they live like royalty in the Philippines where apartment rents are around $150 per Month or even less than that! Where personal Wi-Fi is like $5 a month , And dinner and movie out is like $10
Should many of us move to Manila?
If one lived in the Philippines wouldn’t it be advantageous to use Skype , contact families asking if any US family needs a nanny And has a live-in, then ask for $250 a week for full time care and you could send money back to your family in the Philippines and make them rich
If you have some money, you can live in a very modern apartment in the city with all the amenities of modern living. If you want to live dirt cheap, you could live in the jungle in a hut like structure, but good luck when the typhoons come.
I'm sure some have, but it isn't a small thing to uproot your life and move away from friends and family. Also bear in mind the time difference if you are expected to be at your post during regular hours in the U.S. I think Costa Rica or Belize might be better choices myself.
The police and government there are corrupt. The energy and internet serves are unreliable. Travel on their roads is complete chaos, and many don't obey the traffic laws. Air and water pollution are high. Even if you have money, you will need to install your own backup diesel generator, satellite link for internet, water filtration system, and live in a gated community where they install a privacy fence and hire private security.
And that's only if the local diseases that you have no immunity to yet, do not infect and kill you. I know more than a few middle age Americans who collected their retirement pensions and decided to move to one of these third world countries, and died from some unknown infection a year or so later.
Before you decide to move to a third world country, may I suggest you visit first to see what it is like.
