What is bizarre, is we are unable to convince our children to stop taking those blue pills. Most of the deaths have been caused by a fairly distinctive looking blue pill about the size of an aspirin.
And we can't make our kids stop swallowing them.
Unbelievable, that kids won't turn to another "high" - alcohol, marijuana, whatever, and keep ingesting these pills despite the fact that young people are dropping dead all around them.
No one is coming over the border, holding these teens down and injecting them. They're willingly buying this stuff, and putting it in their bodies.
We lost a 13 year old last week, and 3 kids from Hays ISD High Schools, which is small. In one month.
edited to add: Not ALL fentanyl deaths are the result of pills in this form, but enough.

It IS bizarre. When I was a teen, it only took a few images of Heroin addicts to forever keep me from trying that.

Exactly. And that campaign "faces of meth" did a GREAT job, for curbing soaring meth use. For awhile. When meth was taking Appalachia by storm and ruining the lives of a huge population of young people.
They looked at the pics, and said nope.
But right now, even DEATH won't stop these kids from experimenting with fentanyl.

Did it curb meth use?
Do we have any support for that?
It is clear most of us here don't have the mental health issue of addiction (that we know).......
But China providing fentanyl through Mexico is not new. It's been going on since fentanyl was a thing.
And it was record breaking with every administration. True Biden administration hasn't stopped it -- but neither did any of the other administrations.
What is the solution -- ads on TV saying -- say NO to drugs.

I think the solution is, parents sharing the images of that blue pill and saying this is poison, and it will kill you. Other drugs might derail you, or put you off-course, but this one, you take this pill and you won't wake up in the morning.
Young people have been lied to about stuff like marijuana, and the affects, but this one - it will kill them.

But in our community many of the fentanyl overdoses aren't a 'one time' use kind of thing, it was an addiction thing.
