Trump spoke out and Desantis will too against the left. You have to. The Dems are just that nasty.
People that say Desantis will have a better demeanor than Trump so let Desantis run, are wrong. The left will treat any country-loving Republican horribly and fight him with nastiness until he is gone. They did it to Trump and will fight Desantis probably even worse.
I have ultimate respect for both Desantis and Trump. Neither puts up with their crap but continue to do good for the country despite the left's nastiness. They both are our country's heroes. I love the way they tell it like it is. They are speaking for a lot of us.

If he did, among other things, he wouldn’t have let a lie perpetuate to get out of serving, and he would have toughened up and bitten his lip about the 2020 election rather than the whiny reaction we saw play out.

You have a point, and to some extent I think the same way.
However we have been brainwashed with PC indoctrination, had speech has become guarded and homogenized to the point politicians seem out of touch with the people.
To me DeSantis comes across as genuine, but not as crass or bombastic as Trump.
I think he talks to the people with his own thoughts, not trying to put on airs like Hillary, changing her accent depending on the people she is speaking to.
Infantile name-calling always lends gravitas to a statement coming out of a politician's mouth. Not.
I for one thought it was darn funny and if the left got offended, so much the better. Fauci is an animal abuser, a proven liar, and he was completely wrong with most of his covid suggestions including his hated lockdowns. If his feelings got hurt, too bad.
