No, on giving people who earn more money more power at the ballot box. That would just tyranny over the masses.

If you're looking to get a "better" class of voters, and a more informed voting pool, here's an idea. And it's genius, and perfect.

Make every voter type in the name of the candidate he is voting for. The ballot would say, "Justice of the peace, Position 2" and the voter would have to type in Johannsen. The voter can bring all the notes he wants - he doesn't have to memorize his choices - and it would be set up like Google where if he types Johanson, it will respond did you mean Johannsen?

That would filter out all the people (that is, most the voters) who get to down ballot races and just pick a name by what sounds good to them, having zero idea what they're voting for.

And that's how we get clowns in down ballot races and on school boards. Because the voters know who they want for president and governor, and they have no clue at all the rest of the races but they decide for some reason to vote anyway.

Reps to you!

We need campaign finance and campaign advertising reform in the worst way.

Strict limits and full transparency on the amount any entity can give to a candidate, either directly or indirectly.

Strict limits on when/where/how often "media buys" of all types can be made. No phone calls unless people explicitly opt-in.

We kind of did have a meritocracy voting system in the past .
The only people who were allowed to vote were male property owners.

When we think of meritocracy, it usually applies to educational or economic opportunities.

Not political or voting rights.

Just a thought.
Income doesn't correlate with merit. Income is based on many variables, one of which may or may not be merit.

I think the tactics of government should be worked out by the best, while the strategy of government should be decided by the people. Is that a democracy or an aristocracy? Who cares as long as the results are better.
But then propaganda becomes all that more important. Control the media and then you control the message and can influence people on how to vote.

We see that today with the social issues of transgenderism, abortion and CRT in schools.

yep tell that to the 90% of millionaires who are self made. Heck i have a few friends who are approaching that level and who both came from broken homes with alcoholic parents. Sure them learning discipline in the military then working full time while studying 4 or 5 every hours a day after work to learn skills to advance had nothing to do with it. Their alcoholic dead beat parents used their "connections" to make them a success. Always people ignore the amount of millionaires who are self made.

Counterthought: Go along with the above suggestion, but cap inheritances at, say, $100,000. I mean - if we really want to see who gets along on their merits.
