Who could possibly have predicted that the concept of for-profit prisons wouldn't end well? A for-profit prison system is completely orthogonal to the notion that there should be a rehabilitative aspect to incarceration. The folks who run these prisons are literally incentivized to not rehabilitate prisoners and keep them behind bars as long as possible.
I'm a law and order king of guy, but find the idea of for-profit prisons reprehensible. While I don't have much confidence in the government's ability to run pretty much anything, at least government employees wouldn't have a financial motivation to keep people locked up.

This is why I have been saying the only way to save our country is to start voting for new people who aren’t bought and paid by for by shady corporations on both left and the right side

All politicians are corrupt. They ***** themselves out to the highest bidder.

A for-profit, private prison system that incentivizes the municipality to fill the beds. It doesn't take a genius to see how badly this could end up.

Capitalism. Where profits come first above everything.
I read about it. It is our custom to punish people for doing wrong for life. Between fees, being turned down for jobs, credit and background issues, unable to get decent housing and not able to be reinstated to society -we do not forgive. Several states looking for payback but where are their taxes going ? They get money from many sources, why are they not applied to the prisons. Should we just have the death penalty for all criminals and save ourselves from all problems?

We have no shortage of criminals in the US only a shortage of DA's that are willing to protect the communities by locking up these dangerous people.

I say fill those prisons up.
That has happened in some states. But the state governments lack the will to find enough tax dollars to build new prisons to fill up. So, they have to make it harder for criminals to get to prison.
