Lets face it. Trump has fractured the republican party, chances of winning 2022 and 2024 is ZERO (health care, Sanders)

Its a fractured party with constant infighting and no proactive measures to fix anything other than whining and the party hasn't won the majority vote in YEARS. Always playing defense. . You can bookmark it and take a picture, Republicans stand no chance until 2028 at least... Maybe 2026 if they get a bit more moderate and start to appeal to a broader audience
The Republican party needs to take stock of the decision-making and clean out their own house.
The fact the democrats feared Trump so much, means a great deal.
We can only hope. Maybe there are enough moderates to stop the Trumplican MAGA extremists. But so many are in safe districts like Gosar, Green and others, so the insanity will continue.
If Trump gets the nomination and is against Biden there's still a good chance he could win, even while fighting federal charges. But more people are wising up to the fact he is a despotic wannabe dictator who throws everyone who supports him under the bus. Including nearly 900 who are in, or going to prison for him. I think most of his supporters are just there to see what kind of crazy he pulls out of his hat next.
Here's a scenario for you. Trump gets indicted, delays trial until after he is nominated, wins the Primary, then loses in court. Remains out on appeal, WINS the election over the democrats. His hand picked Supreme Court throws out the conviction.
Because of clear corruption in the republican controlled courts, Biden refuses to relinquish the Presidency, and the military backs him up.
All of the whining we see on this forum about New York and California choosing the president is pathetic. The GOP is a minority party and will continue to be. The big cities drive the economy and support national defense and should have a strong say in national policy. Cattle and pigs do not get to vote no matter how you dress them up. I guess the bottom line is that Retrumplicans will have to convince maybe 60 million people to change their preferences. Not likely. The more liberal metro areas have been kind to the cornpones for years. That only encouraged their right-wing foolishness. Trump very likely brought that era to an end.

Again - the swamp knows what they had to do to get Biden into office. They understand Trump's popularity. He snuck in once... they will burn the country down before it happens again - this is not hyperbole... see the Floyd riots.
2020, Biden won the popular votes and the electorial college votes. Trump didn't.
2016, Trump lost the popular votes, and won the electorial. Hillary lost.
let it go, and fight for a younger fellow.
Zero? Someone hasn't learned from recent history. What I've learned is Republican & right-wing voters always turn out for Republican candidates, even if it's not their best choice. Democratic & left-wing voters are fickle and many only turn out if they are enthusiastic about a candidate who checks all their preferred boxes.

We will see what the midterms bring.
One thing there will be is a lot of scrutiny on the polling places. Democrats have proven through 18 months that their senile leader -- despite being nothing more than a very poor excuse for a teleprompter reader -- doesn't really have much in the way of winning policy, other than freebies. Yes, freebies will work on those who lack critical thinking skills (at least 80% of the D-party), but eventually moderates catch on.
Why do you think Biden chose to do the illegal tuition plan? Because nothing else he has proposed will bring him new voters.
Perhaps more people voted in total?
Didn't Biden also get more votes than Obama 2008?
We have Electors who elect the President. It's the Electorial votes that count. Hence we have the proposal to offer "alternative" electors who would vote other than the wishes of the popular vote. Because of the Electorial College, Trump won the Presidency in 2016, beating Hillary who won the popular vote.
Lincoln also lost the popular vote, but won the Electorial.
Bush 43 also lost the poular vote, but won the electorial.
On balance the Republicans have done better in the Elector system vs undefined direct democratic vote.
In 1860 Lincoln received the most votes, but less than 50% because there were 4 candidates. 4 of the 5 Presidents elected w/o winning the national pop vote were Republicans; Hayes in 1876, B. Harrison in 1888, Bush in 2000 and Trump in 2016. No Democrat has won w/o winning the pop vote.
