Now that the Republicans have caught the car they are backtracking like mad.

First up is Arizona Republican Senate nominee Blake Masters, who scrubbed his website of statements saying he’s "100 percent pro-life" and erased any sign of his advocacy of a fetal "personhood" amendment, which would effectively make all abortions at any stage of pregnancy an act of murder.

Next comes Michigan state Sen. Tom Barrett, who deleted his entire "Values" page that carried his anti-abortion stances.

And then there is Minnesota GOP gubernatorial nominee Scott Jensen who claimed earlier this year that he would only support exceptions to an abortion ban in cases of rape and incest if the pregnant woman’s life was in danger, but now has posted “A Plan to Support and Protect Women," which puts all its emphasis on helping women with things like contraception and counseling.

They know they have alienated women on this issue, so they will just change their stance. Proving that their views are all and only about garnering votes. Their convictions on this issue go no deeper than that.

Wow, it almost sounds like they are... POLITICIANS

But realistically, this says nothing about their convictions. They have job to do, and it's to represent the will of the people.

Yes, they actually don't give a damn about the woman or the fetus. Just the votes.

How would you know? Did you ask them? Perhaps you are unaware, but politicians serve the will of the people. In some cases, they have little choice but to vote for or support positions they aren't enthused about or may not even agree with.

Did you see what happened to Liz Cheney? That's what happens when you go rouge in politics and go against the will of the people you claim to be representing.

Well that's good..right ?

Backtracking proves that they are realizing they made a mistake.
It shows they do give a damn about the people.
I think that's a good thing.

Better than letting ego's rule and not budging

But the backtracking will be used against them by their opponents. And if they should backtrack a second time on an issue, then it's over!

Of course it will be used against them for POLITICAL reasons.

The Dems don't give a damn about the people either.

I think the Repubs changing their minds are listening to the voices and the majority want abortion.

Just look at the OP's post...are they cheering on the change of heart ?

I would be if I believed it was sincere. It's not, it's expedient. As a woman I don't trust that as soon as their elections are over they won't revert right back to their old stances. Their track records on the issue make this sudden turnaround suspect and not believable.

The GOP used abortion as an issue to stir up evangelicals and to fund raise for well over 40 years. It worked great for them until the judges they appointed finally did what the hard-right base wanted, and in the process alienated the pro-choice majority of the country. They can’t walk that back now. The GOP owns it.
