They needed to pass this in a special session, they couldn't wait until they convened in September.

I guess allowing for rape and incest is a showing they are considerate.

Members of the South Carolina House passed a near-total abortion ban on Tuesday after a more restrictive version of the legislation failed.

The measure bans all abortions except in pregnancies up to 12 weeks that result from rape or incest. The original version’s exception for the life of the woman also remains. HB 5399 heads to the South Carolina Senate next week for consideration.

Earlier Tuesday, Republicans tried to pass an abortion ban that made no exceptions for rape or incest. The measure failed by eight votes, underscoring a growing political divide among Republicans over how far to push the kinds of legislative abortion restrictions that remain broadly unpopular with voters.

That tension was evident Tuesday, as Republican leaders struggled at times to keep their lawmakers in line. Earlier in the day, House members — led by the most conservative members of the GOP — rejected a rape and incest exception.

Does that mean only rape and incest victims can get abortions? And only within 12 week limit?

It wasn't clear from the OP.

Why can't the Republicans just wait until after the midterms to decide on abortion Rights? They are alienating a lot of Voters that have had it with the Democrats wrecking this country and are now sending them back to reluctantly vote for a Dem because these Anti Abortion stances are draconian.

The Dems were on the ropes in most states but with this Abortion debate the Dems have been saved by the bell.

I supported the Supreme Court decision but oppose this type of Legislative Action. Put it to a vote in each State and let the people of the State decide. It's too decisive and too important to let the Politicians do it.

It's good they allowed exceptions.

In 2017 (latest data available) there were 5000 abortions in SC total for the year..a 17% decline.
That's good...less women getting abortions.

No such thing as Abortion Rights. If the birth mothers life, health is in danger they get to exercise their right to life by having an abortion. That's the only tie in.

Because the same ones who've been wrong often enough said so? We'll see.

Why can't women use the morning after pill? Treat the cause, don't react to the symptom and think it's problem solved. Not that you are saying one way or the other.

The 2 party system leads to them playing to their bases which are far to the left or right of the majority of citizens. This is just the GOP playing to their base which is not representative of the majority of citizens.
