I've lived in the southeast for 25 years -- red states and in both states I have been in a situation where there was a run on gas.
Is that any different?
Never happened to me. Rolling blackouts in California? Very, very common multiple times a summer.
Meanwhile, Texas’ power grid is handling the incredible hordes of blue state refugees just fine.
Pretty soon the anti-science climate change crowd in California will be rubbing balloons on their head for energy, as Democrats are idiots when it comes to energy and efficiency.
It doesn't matter where the call to use less energy comes from, the fact is there isn't enough. The irony is that California is urging (for now) everyone get on board with a technology their grid can't support. Texas is not.

I installed solar panels for a living and the key to at all if you use this is to use less and diversify your home. You don't tell somebody going on solar by all means get an electric fridge and electric furnace. Some people on a fundamental basis do not understand how it works.

I experienced a huge rolling blackout sometime in November 2011 when I lived in San Diego.
How I remember it it was unusually hot for the time of year, and too many people ran their ACs and shut down the grid.
Cell phones didn't work, all the stores and restaurants needed to throw away their food. I stopped by a gas station to pick up some snacks and the guy had his car turned on with the high beams to illuminate the store.

"Use less" seems to be the philosophy that isn't in the brochure. Goes along with the lefts attitude with everything. Eat less, travel less, be comfortable less, have fun less. It goes on and on. I wonder why they aren't honest and just make that their campaign slogan?

They are asking to plan ahead. You are driving home and notice you need to charge...wait until 9:30 to plug in when you get home.f Of course if you NEED to right away -- go ahead but plan accordingly.
There are many things to plan for. The earthquake kit plan is to have transportation ready. And if we knew when a bigger one was about to hit then there never would have been a World Series game stopped in San Francisco when one hit just as it was about to start.
So any plan in place would be to top off that car battery first, the other less critical things can be planned around

Well Texas is not forcing significant portions of all car sales to be electric only by 2026 and 100% ban by 2035. They respect the right of choice to allow people to drive what kind of car you want to drive. Its about choice. People should have every right to choose to buy a gasoline vehicle or an electric vehicle. And California Liberal socialist government and the liberal socialists in Washington do not have any respect for our rights.
So for years we have been advised, asked to not use power during peak times. Run your dishwasher late at night, or do laundry middle of the day, etc.
Now you guys get offended?
Other states (Texas) are also asking its residents to use power more efficiently.
It takes a bit of planning, especially with cars, but it isn't such a bad thing.
I don't recall any States mandating that you purchase a Dishwasher and making it illegal to wash dishes in the sink.

The sad part is that with thoughts like this I truly think that there are people who either can't or won't see that there is a difference between the Government mandating certain things and then restricting the use of them, and an event like a Blizzard, Flood, or Hurricane.
This "Energy Crisis" isn't being caused by "Unusual Climate Patterns". This "Energy Crisis" is being created by Government overregulation. Saying that we all need to drive EV's, even though we don't have enough electricity to go around.
Plan Ahead? Okay, I plan ahead by having a car with a Gas Engine. I can store a few gallons of gas in a spare tank, $40-$50. Want to have a decent backup for an EV - 8-10K.

Thats because youre not seeing the bigger point. Is Texas trying to ban gas powered vehicles at the same time? No they arent. Meanwhile CA wants to force people into electric cars but doesnt have the grid to support it.
Wind turbines are not the answer. They already kill thousands of birds every year. They can catch on fire. They are ugly, hideous eyesores.
Solar panels are expensive and a joke. To be able to have enough solar panels to create enough electricity to charge all the cars that this insipid government wants to force on people, is far, far, FAR more than most can imagine.
Natural gas could be an answer, on a smaller scale, otherwise, enjoy your methane headaches.
Go Nuclear. Until then, no one is being 'green' or 'saving' anything.
