We had the good luck of living in a house on the same circuit (I'm not sure that's the right term, but I'm going with it) as the local fire station. Emergency facilities were exempt from the rolling blackouts, so we were never cut off. It was an interesting time.
Good to know...find a place using the same grid as the fire station. I'll keep that in mind for the future, even though I won't ever live in CA again.
Hoping to avoid blackouts, the California Independent System Operator, which manages the state’s power grid, warned Tuesday that it probably will issue a series of Flex Alerts over the next several days. Flex Alerts are voluntary calls for conservation during the afternoon and evening hours, when energy use tends to soar. Residents will be asked to turn up their thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using dishwashers or other large appliances, and hold off on charging their electric vehicles, all during the 4-9 p.m. time frame. [end quote]
So this is the question my husband and I have:
What, if anything, might possibly happen at 9:00 p.m. if most Californians follow this guidelines and millions and millions of people switch on the A/C all within a few minutes of each other?
Any guesses? (Or does anyone know with absolute certainty that this won't be a problem?)

Even worse are idiots like Newsom who think they can power all those EVs with green energy. We have rolling blackouts now every summer when the temp approaches 100. And they are shutting down the last nuke and natural gas power plants.
California will be like Germany, dependent on another for its energy. But it will be neighboring states, not Russia. And add to that water.
What about desalinization? Oh, that takes loads of electricity.
The Marxists running California are dooming it to third world state.
California. What a freakin joke.

Just days after passing a ban on all new gas vehicles starting in 2035, California has had to ask their Tesla and other electric vehicle owners to stop plugging their cars in because they can't spare the electricity.
Try to point this out to someone who is a far left environmentalist and all you will get is a blank staring look and a BUT(insert illogical excuse here). Look I would love to live in a World where we are not dependent on fossil fuels and renewables are plentiful and work well but we just are not there yet. Idiots want to destroy civilization because they have been brainwashed to believe it will happen if we only wish hard enough.
California. What a freakin joke.

Wow, that's very bad- Actually, maybe I'm under-stating that.
I heard last night that charging stations in France (sounded like they have some that are almost like large gas stations here in America... rows of chargers. Pop in to buy a soda while car charges) are being rationed because with the war France doesn't have enough LNG to power those power plants at near capacity. So people are literally sitting in charging station lines for several hours in Paris etc. Stinks to be them. I'll keep my ICE cars around -- gasoline shortages seem less likely than the rationing of electricity.
I've lived in the southeast for 25 years -- red states and in both states I have been in a situation where there was a run on gas.
Is that any different?
