He's a lawyer, he's supposed to represent his clients, especially if he feels he's right. if he agrees with Trump doesn't mean he still isn't liberal politically.
I have seen him as a Fox News contributor many times since the impeachment, he isn't liberal.
In the agency I worked for, they paid for atty type service yearly. Just a simple case could cause the agents to be sued. I think most law enforcement has attorneys or legal folks on call or sitting on the wings. This is not unusual. But again, if I had to unwrap that hot potato(Trump) I would have an entire legal team on hand. Trump sues everyone.
