You're right, thank you for reminding me. We also have the problem of out of control gun violence that isn't matched anywhere else in the world that also contributes to the lower life expectancy in America. Thanks for making this point.
You're wrong. Guns save lives. It's been proven over and over again.
Brazil eased 2 dozen restrictions on guns, making it easier and cheaper to obtain. Gun ownership went from 330,000 to over 700,000. The homicide rate is the lowest it's been in 14 years and the rate dropped 34%
You are once again confusion lack of guidance with guns. The murders are mainly done by children raised in a single parent environment. The same children that are more likely to die young. That are more likely to be obese and unhealthy.
We have been falling behind the rest of the world for 50 years. What is your take on why?
Falling behind where? In education? No doubt. Government is in charge of that and you want them to be in charge of healthcare? They are the reason costs have risen and quality went down.
Competition drives down prices and improves quality. Price controls hurt quality and and subsidies raise prices. Why are healthcare costs rising when technology reduces the cost in other fields?
Why are the same drugs so much more expensive here than elsewhere? Why do people take 'vacations' to Mexico and elsewhere for surgeries?
Why did we let lobbyists create the foods pyramid and other guidance taught to children that has wrecked proper nutrition for generations in order to increase profit? https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8375951/

And yep, the political response to public health measures that has influenced so many has been disgusting to watch.
If whites saw a larger drop than Hispanics and Blacks, a good hard look needs to be done if the vaccines share some responsibility.
As I understand, in 2022, excess deaths remain 10-20% above expected, and this cannot be explained by COVID. Cardiovascular deaths are the leading cause of this increase and disproportionate number of these deaths are happening at the home than other years (SCA).
In the article you referenced, it says it was due to the pandemic. That makes sense, since the 65+ crowd were the most likely to die.
I would imagine that it will go back to what it was before in the next couple of years- unless we experience another widespread deathly event.
I'm sure certain posters are salivating over a reduced white population but as you said it is probably mostly due to Covid and there are more white elderly in this country which would have made them more vulnerable. So they can stop licking their chops.
"The results of this study are very disturbing," says Dr. Steven Woolf, a professor of population health and health equity at Virginia Commonwealth University. "This shows that U.S. life expectancy in 2021 was even lower than in 2020," he says.
Other high-income countries have seen a rebound in life expectancy, which Woolf says makes the U.S. results "all the more tragic."
Woolf attributes the drop in life expectancy for white Americans as a reflection of attitudes in some parts of the country to vaccines and pandemic control measures, and to the fact that the U.S. has lagged for years in making improvements in healthcare, and that the gap has been growing for decades.
"A lot of much poorer countries do much better than us in life expectancy," says John Haaga, a retired division director of the National Institute on Aging. "It's not genetics, it's that we have been falling behind for 50 years."
Drug OD deaths and suicides are to blame. Its killing young people, dragging down the LE rate significantly. Don't do drugs and you'll likely live a long life in this country.
A 75 year old dying from Covid has little to no effect on the LE rate, because they're old.

So what do you want to see done about this? Do you want to see urban police departments take an aggressive stance towards arresting anyone who has a gun, and for the arrestees to face stiff penalties?
Anyway, back to the topic at hand: could obesity be contributing to this problem? People in our not-at-all-insane media have been telling me lately that obesity is something to be celebrated. Could they be wrong, perchance?
And a lack of access to affordable healthcare, something that is not a problem in the rest of the world.
I agree that our healthcare is not affordable.. something needs to be done..
but the rest of the world doesn't have access to our quality of healthcare.. not sure its a fair trade off but i will take unaffordable healthcare over some of the affordable sketchy healthcare provided after a long wait in some other countries...
