FYI- this is where it happened, just south of Midway airport.

I visit it routinely. Lived in the city for 46 years and have lots of friends and family still there. Never once have I been run down by street racers--or even been the victim of a crime there, despite the typical hysterical posts here about how terrible Chicago is.

The police had been working to prevent such fooling around on the city streets. See the above news items.

I don't disagree. They should be put away for a good long time. But search street racing. It happens all across the country, typically by young fools in jacked up cars. It's an unfortunate fact of life that young people can lack common sense. It has nothing to do with Chicago, per se, though, as the OP contends. It happens everywhere.

Yes, people are selfish and self-centered -- young, old and in-between.

But it is one thing to put your own LITTLE wants and desires before others, and quite another thing to behave so recklessly.

For example, when I was 17, I cared more about having fun than staying home to babysit my much younger siblings and resented my parents for making me do it, but I never would have just left them alone while I went to a party. And I think that the great majority of teens would agree with that.

I need to read the articles - but I think the east side of Cicero is Chgo and the west side is Bedford Park ... couldn't be more on the border if they tried.

I think they would, too. I don't think the majority of young people would partake in street racing. But there are always those few idiots in every generation, right?

Agreed. Tragic as it was, something happened one day to one person.
