When there is drag racing in Chicago it is a failure of leftist leadership? What is it when there is street drag racing elsewhere in America?

What has Chicago been doing?

Chicago's top cop says they're cracking down on drag racing and street takeovers after a weekend that saw plenty of both impact several locations around the city. "People think this is fun behavior, said Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown. "What we need to do is make this a very serious criminal offense." Brown admitted to growing frustration as hundreds burn rubber and break the law.

As the Chicago mayor said a month before the tragic incident:

Quote:
"We worked a lot with Ald. Reilly, who was the chief sponsor of that ordinance, to make sure that we had one that was in compliance with the city laws, and it really gave the police department an opportunity to be successful in shutting these things down," Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said. "As you know, unfortunately, drag racing and drifting had been a thing in our city for decades. I live not too far from Fullerton Avenue and it's an issue."

See how folks here make presumptions and tell one side of the story?

Why do you think people should just ignore crime in our nation's big cities? How could you even expect that of people???
In redneck places people know what is going on. You don't expect it in a place like Chicago. Much like gun shots at night are common around my place in WV yet nobody is actually shot. Drag racing down Main Street here is a little different but it happens. What doesn't happen is the carnage. Most people here would know the sound and stay to the side.

However, the depiction of their involvement as just "crossing the street" is misleading to say the least.

You should probably read up on what happened.

P.S. When police and other responders showed up they were pelted with rocks.

Driver claims they thought they were being car-jacked. lol.

Hopefully they get you on the jury.

I agree with you. This is a national phenomenon.

We will have to wait and see how hard Chicago cracks down.

Their mayor however blames social media and not the drivers.

Do you agree with that?

Social media had publicized the phenomenon. Whether they cause the situation and what to do about social media are unanswered questions.

For reference, you can buy a C6 or even C5 corvette and modify it to over 800hp for under 20k.

If you live with your parents this is not a high bar to reach for a young adult.

Going really fast in a straight line with an older model isn't that difficult.

One thing I think would be somewhat effective regardless of your politics is we need to teach people to be much more aware of their surroundings. This would lead to a net drop in crime and deaths. For example in Thailand there was a devastating tsunami and many locals noticed the crabs running from the sea. The tourist were oblivious some took pics and got swept away.

If you hear loud engines, see crabs flee, etc. it isn't really that hard

So you don't agree with the mayor. Thanks for that roundabout answer.

Yeah but can we say in more country locales or cultures instead of redneck? Most young men who grew up in Austin in the late 60s and 70s watched street races or participated in them. In small towns it was practically a way of life. Doesn't make them redneck. Makes them motorheads with no nearby dragstrip available. I am an unapologetic past participant. Not in downtown environments ... that's just stupid. Nobody did that. There's always a quiet straight stretch of rural road somewhere. Boys will be boys.

Queue the pursed lips, raised soaked in Purell crowd's puritanical responses in 3 .. 2 .. 1 ..
