I just posted this under the Celebrities forum, but I am not sure if this could also be considered political news. Her children are at, or are on their way to, Balmoral, where she is under medical supervision.
It's so hard to know, but I note that the BBC has changed to continual coverage and all of the presenters have changed into black. They're definitely setting the tone for an announcement of her passing. Family members gathering at her side so hastily indicates that her condition is very serious.
I am reminded that we went to war, not once, but twice...to never have to involve ourselves with those happenings ever again. And I am not cold and callous but the largest chunk of living history on the planet is with her. Still wont shed a tear...my wife said she represents our mother country and I pointed out that neither of us is english (in fact she is part IRISH) and some of my ancestors were here FIRST.
Is this a given? I don't know much about the British monarchy, but I recall reading a while back that it was possible the crown would skip Charles and go right to William.
Elizabeth sure held onto that crown to the bitter end, though. I wonder why? Did she think Charles would not make a good king?

I don't know how anyone would think Charles would be a good king, and Queen Elizabeth II was a very intelligent woman, from everything I have read about her.
(Btw, by "was", I only mean that I have no idea whether she was as sharp, or almost as sharp, as she is in her 90's as she was younger days.)

I think even the country would rather the crown pass to William ... I don't think there is a snowball's chance in hell of that happening.

Nope, Charles has been waiting in the wings for 73 years. But my question is, is it even possible for the crown to skip him and go to William?
