Nope, time to accept that obesity is caused by people with lack of will power and self control, stuffing their faces with the unhealthiest of foods 24/7.
The problem with considering obesity as a disease is it 'legitimizes' obesity as something that is not necessarily a person's fault. It creates this thought that obesity can be treated like many other diseases with drugs and surgery, and requires zero recalibration of one's connection with food.
The US will never deal with obesity as a problem. We glorify it instead.
Incorrect. We ignore it. We assign blame. We vilify people for being "weak" or "having no willpower". We admonish people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. We tell them to eat less, move more - without looking into the reasons why people overeat.
And then there's our food - oversugared, oversalted, overfatted (if that's a word). The government rewards the food industry to produce junk food.

We're not dealing with it. We're perpetuating it.
Yeah. That's no longer true.
I take it you haven't seen the body positivty movement and they way it glorifies obesity?
We just had over a million Americans die of a disease which had as it's primary comorbidities obesity and diabetes.
We have a crumbling health care system that spends untold money on other diseases and conditions related to weight.
I think there is a problem that needs to be ADULTLY addressed, not 'sugar'coated or glossed over. We are doing it with tobacco, we need to do it with obesity.
Ironically solving the tobacco problem probably made the obesity problem worse.
The government is to blame as well.
They allow all the garbage foods to be on the shelves.
You are basically eating chemical cocktails cut with “flavor enhancers”.
But FDA says all good so eat up. It’s all about bottom lines. Your health, their wallets.
And for the love of god there is nothing sexy about some fat pig in a bikini. Please tell the media to stop glorifying this nonsense.
You can't blame government for people's poor eating habits. No one is forcing anyone to eat junk food or order some high caloric sugary dessert at a restaurant. That's their choice.

The government can help a bit by addressing food and P-E requirements in K-12 schools. Other than that it’s on the individuals who lived terrible lifestyle choices to the point they hormonally destroyed their body (obesity is principally driven from endocrine dysfunction due to poor life style choices).

I think blaming the individual is actually an empowering and motivating message. It lets them know they’re responsible for their obesity and they alone can fix it.
Versus blaming it on genetics or something nebulous like metabolism (as if metabolism is static and doesn’t respond to diet and exercise) which just makes them a victim.

Remember when Michele Obama tried to do that….healthy eating. You guys complained.
