“The bill is likely to be struck down as unconstitutional at substantial taxpayer expense. The censorial consequences should trigger the highest level of constitutional scrutiny, but the undue burdens and lack of consumer benefit ensures it won’t survive even lower levels of scrutiny,” Santa Clara University School of Law professor Eric Goldman wrote in a blog post. “As my blog post mentions, there are several other bases for constitutional challenges.”
The difference between complete scum (Newsom) and a normal governor (even Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown), is a normal gov. would veto the bill because he knows it's unconstitutional and will be struck down in court at great taxpayer expense, while scum (Newsom), will sign the bill anyway, knowing it's unconstitutional and will be struck down in court at great taxpayer expense, because he doesn't care. Newsom has never had concern for the law. I don't think we've had a gov. more dangerous and irresponsible.
As a senior, many of us feel you can't have any type of discussion without being corrected, informed you are a racist or entirely wrong. This is occurring everywhere, even with family. There are others, like me, that are choosing not to socialize as much as we used to because of being so uncomfortable with a conversation and walking on eggs around people.
Um. The bill just requires them to disclose their policy.
"A.B. 587 will require social media companies to publicly post their policies regarding hate speech, disinformation, harassment and extremism on their platforms and report data on their enforcement of the policies.
The newly signed legislation will also require platforms to file semiannual reports to the state’s attorney general’s office that will disclose their policies on hate speech, extremism and disinformation.
The state’s attorney general’s office is also required “to make all terms of service reports submitted pursuant to those provisions available to the public in a searchable repository on its official internet website.” "
How long until those in charge leverage the data on enforcement towards guiding policy? It's impossible to believe given CA's recent history that this effort is benign.

Be yourself, like old men have always done. Accept your "grumpy old man" side.
One of the benefits of being older is you can say what you want. You're not there to impress the young girls, and your friends probably think the same as you do. If family members can't take it, tough poo.
My grandfather never pulled his punches. Worst comes to worst they'll dismiss you as a senile old man, but who cares? Maybe the youngins' will remember what grandpa said.
I’m so sick of Newsom and his authoritarian policies. I probably would not have the right to post this if I lived in California.
This pos bill is going to get struck down, but will give its sponsors and Governor Hair Gel a much needed opportunity to virtue signal. Virtue signaling is about fashionable causes, which is a challenge now that BLM and masking are starting to get a little out of date.
At some point CA will declare itself apart from the US by virtue of its destructive, immoral, unethical and criminal legislation. CA is legislating itself out of the union!

How can you have a policy on hate speech, extremism and disinformation if you can't define those terms?
Looking at the past couple of years can show that many believe any questions about covid vaccines is DISINFORMATOIN but now we know better. We've also seen some SM sites banning people who don't agree on every new social issue, pronouns, genders, trans issues, etc. We can't just blanketly say something like "trans women are women" and accuse anyone questioning it of HATE SPEECH. Or anyone who likes the MAGA policies or who question the weirdness of the 2020 election of being EXTREMISTS. I mean you can, and he probably does want that, but it's just a power move by the government and not based in reality at all.
