Most Gardner Edgerton school board members on Monday said they were against surveying students on a proposed policy that would prohibit transgender children from using the restroom that aligns with their gender identity.
Four days later, dozens of high schoolers walked out of class in protest.
“I was outraged,” said senior Elizabeth Fiedler, who helped organize the protest. “Students are aware. We have made our voices known before and we will do it again. The school board is supposed to benefit students. How can they do that if they cannot even offer them the basic respect of listening to them?”
Let them keep walking out, and if they continue to do so, expel the whiny brats. Due to bad parenting, they'll just have to settle for getting their education from twisted activists on Tik-Tok and Twitter.
50 kids marched out in protest out of how many kids in the total school in support of how many trans kids?
I agree OP they are using any reason to get out of class and make some noise and here is yahoo picking up their story.
Maybe the school board should allow democracy into the school and have a faculty and student wide vote on this subject?
I'm sure there are many more students than the 50 that marched out in support that if allowed to voice their opinion without fear of backlash, bullying and ostracizing would vote in opposition to allowing Trans students to use the bathroom of their choosing.
Kids have enough distractions these days. I wonder how other countries are handling Trans students? Is it even a thing in China? Iran? Mexico or anywhere outside the US?
when i was a freshman in high school some students threatened to walk out of school in protest of the vietnam war. many in our high school were subject to the draft in a few years. the principal said any student who walked out of school would be suspended. no walkout occurred.
I read this a few times and I’m still not sure who is protesting what. How about just making a rule that your existing plumbing determines what bathroom you use. Why not make men’s bathrooms as tolerant of transgender people as women’s bathrooms are supposed to be? Has anyone seen boys in protest of transgender girls in their bathrooms?

I wonder if Elizabeth would change her tune if a predatory boy, under cover of a policy to allow transgenders to use whatever bathroom they feel like, lay in wait for her in the girl's room?
Attitudes are changing. Look at how society's view of homosexuality evolved over the last 30-40 years. Back in the 80s, being homosexual was a major social liability, but today's high school students are mostly supportive of their outwardly homosexual classmates, and abhorrent of the anti-LGBT sentiment they see in their elders. Those kids in Gardner-Edgerton will be voting soon, and they don't have the same attitudes toward transgender rights as their adult administrators.
We all know they didn't come up with it themselves.
Not sure if it's a teacher or what.
These kids are being brainwashed from multiple sources.
