Name one oligarchy that served the people well. The US is in a steep decline.

Will the decline produce strong people? in your opinion, or have we passed some social precipice?

The only reason the United States seems to be in decline is that we are much more demographically diverse than other developed countries.

Most people who immigrated to the United States from Third World countries are doing better now than they could have imagined in their wildest dreams.

Other countries don't have the same history that we do.

Most MEUs have a lot more experience of saving lives in the world than storming hostile beaches. Heck, we even helped the Iranians out after some serious earthquakes. I think the govt in Tehren even suspended the “Good morning and Death to America” chant for a day.

We do so many good things for other nations, yet, we are the most hated. One best friend of mine broke his neck (he survived) while doing humanitarian job in some African countries. He was a Navy Corpsmen (Petty Officer 3rd Class (E-4) ? I think) Is it worth it? hell no, this guy cannot even tolerate solid food.

Time to change this mentality. Like Trump or hate Trump, he is right about we need to make America great again.
America has been doing this as far back as the Spanish-American War.

I’m still trying to have faith in the American “people”. Not our swamp infected government.
For me, the midterm election will convey if our country is so far gone and ignorant that it will allow democrats to remain in power, or will rise up to turn this incompetent, dangerous and reckless party out.

Here's a bench mark of the 'locked in voter' regardless of how bad their candidate is doing. For Dems it's 42%, and for repubs it's 37%, typically. Locally can be different and my 'guess' is the repubs have gained ground. So 79% of the voters will always vote for their "Nixon" or their "Clinton". Voter turn out (actual amount) might be different , but percentage wise, those numbers are close to true.

In fact the last president to get > 60% of the vote was.... Nixon. Go figure.

So 21% decide the outcome and of that 21%, you have libertarians, socialists, green party, etc. So when it comes down to brass tacks, 15% of the voters or so create the winner or loser.

As of the 90's I've become a 'locked in voter' with a very few local exceptions.

If the U.S. goes into a terminal decline, I don't think it will create strong people. What might happen is that those who can jump ship will jump ship. Those who can, well this might happen. The criminal class will go crazy and steal/kill whoever they can. Hard times don't necessarily build strong people. In alot of cases they encourage a criminal class to grow. Or, it enables a criminal class.

I think the USA is in flux. In some places, things are better than ever. Some places are in decline. There are times I think "people are getting worse every day". And then I remember something. Many people were always this stupid. I admit to having been nostalgic for the 1990s. There are times I've looked back to 2004. However, I sit and really think about something. I dealt with idiots in 2004. I was dealing with them in 2007, 2008, 2015, etc.

There is something else I think about. Social media has blown up alot since 2004. I remember misinformation being spread on MySpace back in the mid-late 2000s. And then it hit Facebook. Later on it hit Twitter. Social media has literally given stupidity platforms to launch from. Stupidity that was always there is revealed on social media.

I don't think we're in so much a decline but a state of organized chaos. We're seeing history repeat itself. Rising crime and horrible infrastructure? This happened in the 1970s and 80s. The drugs too. There has always been a part of the population dealing with a state of moral, physical, and psychological decrepitude. However, once every generation, it spreads.

The US is combination of the old Roman empire and Weimar Germany (aka hyper-inflation and cultural degeneracy).
