How stupid does one have to be to park their car on the tracks, apprehend someone, put them in the back of the car that is on the tracks, and then leave it there while they search the person's car?
A Platteville police officer had pulled over Yareni Rios-Gonzalez, 20, earlier this month in connection with a road-rage incident and stopped his car on the tracks at US 85 and County Road 38 to question her...
...Two Fort Lupton officers helped the Platteville cop conduct what they considered a high-risk traffic stop and place the woman in the back seat of the patrol car as they searched for a firearm.
The video footage released by cops shows that within a few seconds, a Union Pacific freight train is blaring its horns several times as it approaches the car — but the officers appear oblivious to the sounds...
...Seconds later, dashcam video shows the train slamming the police car and dragging it down the tracks...
Are you fricken kidding me?!
They just take anyone these days to be a cop? I can't even begin to understand the level of collossal stupidity it takes to a) park on the train tracks b) put the suspect in that car and leave it on the tracks c) pay zero attention to the horn blaring as the train barrels down the tracks towards the car.
The good news is, she survived, however, she has a lot of injuries:
"...Rios-Gonzalez survived the incident with nine broken ribs, a broken arm, a fractured sternum and numerous other injuries to her head and back...a fractured leg..."
And this is the special part:
Quote:
Rios-Gonzalez has not been charged, and neither have the officers whose behavior has been characterized as “reckless” and “negligent” by two 9NEWS legal analysts. It’s possible officers present during the incident could face criminal charges, the analysts said.
They better be charged. They put her life in danger over an alleged 'road rage' call, which they have yet to prove. They should spend time for putting her through this, and a long sentence for being this stupid!
This is one for the record books, for sure. I just posted about it in the Current Events Forum and there's also a thread about it in the Colorado Forum. For once a subject that we can ALL agree on!
According to reports, she didn't know why she'd been stopped. She could be heard in a body or car cam recording asking one of the officers why she was stopped and "what's going on, ma'am"? It sounds like they may have chased the wrong car after someone called in a road rage incident involving a gun. She's only 20 years old. What a way to start out adult life! Her lawyer's on the case and is in disbelief that the officers abandoned the car with her in it on the RR tracks. They hadn't even charged her with anything, probably got the wrong car in the first place, and it nearly cost her her life.
